The first group of 8 of the top 32 performs. Diana DeGarmo was first singing "I've Got the Music in Me." All three judges thought she was great. Next was Marque Lynch with "Wind Beneath My Wings". He received complimentary reviews. Third was Ashley Thomas singing "Crazy". Ashley received mix reviews, due to the competition being incredibly tough. Next up was Katie Webber with "Oranged Coloured Sky". The judges thought that the song choice was old-fashioned. After Katie was Erskine Walcott singing "Open Arms". It was considered to be a "safe" song choice according to Simon. Next was Jennifer Hudson with "Imagine: John Lennon". She received fairly complimentary comments and Simon quoted she looked like she was wearing a "Leather Nurse" outfit. Getting close to the end of the show, the second-to-last performer was Matthew Metzger. The judges stated his voice wasn't up to par with the performers that were present in the competition. Although, Simon said he was very good with the camera and he reminded him a bit of Clay Aiken. The last performer of the night was Fantasia Barrino singing "Let's Give Em' Something to talk About".
