Linköping Municipality (Linköpings kommun) is a municipality in Östergötland County in southern Sweden. Its seat is located in the city of Linköping, with some 94,000 inhabitants.
The municipality borders in the west to Motala, and clockwise to Finspång, Norrköping, Åtvidaberg, Kinda, and Mjölby municipalities.
The present municipality was formed in 1971 by the amalgamation of the City of Linköping with five surrounding rural municipalities. The number of original local government entities (as of 1863) making up Linköping Municipality is 32.
Currently, the municipality is ruled by a coalition of the Social Democrats and the Centre Party. The highest official is Lena Micko, a Social Democrat. Linköping is one of the few municipalities which names the speaker of the assembly mayor. Currently, this position is held by Eva Joelsson, also a Social Democrat. The largest opposition party is the Moderate Party, led in Linköping by Paul Lindvall.
