[edit] Homeschooling

Well for one I homeschooled from 7th grade on up and graduated at the age of 16. I don't think School has anything to do with "socializing" etc. I had a horrible horrible public school experience and the schools around where I moved to in the 7th grade are even worse, academically and socially. When I was young and homeschooled I had friends here on the street I live on, when I got older like 16+ I started to make friends outside of my town in another town 30 minutes away through church and the mall.

I think the whole idea of your kids need to be in public school to get social interactions and friends is stupid, when they graduate high school they are more than likely going to leave/lose those friends. Now I have known some homeschooled kids that were cut off from social life, you know, definite geeks etc. Just really seemed like they didn't know what was going on in the world other than things they found out through the internet (they were all gamers and such, movie buffs so thats all they cared about), they had horrible fashion sense etc etc.....But that was totally on the parents fault, their parents didn't go and bring them places like the mall and church like my mom did, and when they did go to the mall they had already been so cut off from other kids cuse of their parents morals and such that they wouldnt talk to any casual kid cuse they would imagine those kids as being "bad" or w/e. So though I do like homeschooling its not perfect....neither is public school.

[edit] A request for your help with my research

Dear Leopold Stotch

My name is Jim Sutton and I'm undertaking research in the School of Library, Archive, and Information Studies, UCL.

My research involves studying wiki usage, the reasons why individuals use wikis and the benefits/disadvantages of using wikis to manage knowledge.

I noticed a contribution of yours to the article on wikis and I was wondering if you would agree to my analysing your contributions to Wikipedia. This will basically involve calculating how many times you've contributed to Wikipedia within the time period of a week.

I was also wondering what your reasons are for using/contributing to Wikipedia. I'd be extremely grateful for any feedback you can provide.

If you agree to my analysing your contributions and can provide any feedback as to why you contribute to Wikipedia I’d be very grateful. My email address is james.sutton (at) ucl.ac.uk and can be emailed at this address if you agree and have any feedback or questions.

I also have a survey online which I'm using as part of my research at:

http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/stqa7937/survey/

My Wikipedia username is Sutton4019 and my research is being carried out jointly with Melissa Terras at UCL. Her email address is m.terras (at) ucl.ac.uk .

If you have any questions please let me know and thank you for your time. Thanks! --Sutton4019 09:18, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks Leopold Stotch for agreeing to my request and for your feedback. Your right, I haven't contributed to Wikipedia yet :/ and feel a bit nervous of doing so at the moment but I do enjoy reading Wikipedia and find it a valuable resource. I do contribute to my work wiki though and am becoming more and more interested in using wikis. So my research is quite a big learning experience for me and the responses I've had back so far have been really interesting. Thanks again for your help. --Sutton4019 14:26, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
