Leading University (Bengali: লিডিং বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়) or (LU) is a private university located at Sylhet, Bangladesh. It was established in 2002 by the Private University Act 1992.[1] The outreach campuse of LU is located in Siddeshwari, Dhaka.

Leading University is the first Government approved private university of Sylhet. This institution was founded by renowned philanthropist Mr. Ragib Ali. He is also a pioneer in establishing the first private university in Bangladesh North South University. He proposed to the Ministry of education for establishing Leading university on 24 August 1996. After that, LU was inaugurated on 4 March 2002. The university started its first semester with 106 undergraduate students.

The university has three semesters available in a year, Spring Semester (starts in January), Summer Semester (starts in April), Fall Semester (starts in October). The duration of each semester is thirteen weeks.

It also provide extra academic activities designed by its own particular club. Such as Sports Club, Cultural Activities Club, Social Service Club, Debating Club and Computer Club.
[edit] Recognition
Leading University awarded gold medal to best student speakers in International conference on Applied Mathematics and Mathematical physics (ICAMMP) 2004[2]. The event was held from 4 to 7 January, 2005 at Sylhet.
