TTYL TTYL and its sequel, TTFN are novels told entirely through the instant messages of three friends. SnowAngel (Angela), zoegirl (Zoe), and madmaddie (Maddie) are all sophomores in high school. The final book, l8r g8r, in which Angela, Zoe, and Maddie are seniors in their high school, will be published spring of 2007.
I picked up the book TTYL and it's sequel at Borders as Valentine's day gifts for my two daughters, ages 15 and 17. I had never heard of them and was attracted by their colorful bindings and the fact that Ms. Myracle is given much aplomb in the inside jacket.
I licked the pages through the books and noticed a reference to pot smoking a the word "shit" but thought, oh well, my daughters are old enough to have heard and seen a few things, it's probably not that bad. But i realized that i wrote a crappy book with all words including sex in it and i thought "what ever kids will learn what it is sometime"
Also, the fact the Borders had used the "out in the aisle" rack normally used for best sellers and other popular titles and had placed these books among several more juvenile titles under the broad heading "KIDS", led me to believe that I was probably being an old fogey by even thinking of reconsidering my ultimate action.
So I purchased the books.
I got home and signed the inside covers "Happy Valentines Day, Love Dad".
My oldest daughter picked up on the problem right away. she said "mom why is there shit and sex in here? thats unnappropriate for young girls that want to real the book!!! and the word fuck, and bang me." i said darling its k nothng will happen nobody will know. soon enough my husband read it and asked if he wanted to do this all tonight. i said sure hunny i would love to!!
You guessed it! It was filled with the filth equivalent to an R rated movie.
So I went back to Borders, a few minutes ago. They said that the book normally was to be displayed in the 'young teens' section where you can plainly see the shelves are marked "contains mature content". Right, if you are an elf, you might notice these signs. They were not posted on every shelf, either. And only in one single place was the warning easily viewed by an adult. Further, the signage was not a flashing "WARNING" or any thing like it. It was written on the same signage as the bibliography code numbers. So a browser wouldn't even notice the warning, unless they were looking for something other than book titles.
The sales person did not offer any solution to my problem, and essentially washed her hands of me, post haste.
If you google Lauren Myracle, you won't see any negative reviews, either. Go and try!
So? if your daughters are 15 and 17, they probably go to high school, where people say stuff like that all day long. It's probably nothing they haven't heard before. If your kids were significantly younger, THEN that would be a problem.I'm Kinda Awesome... 23:28, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

I love this book because i think that its was ok for them to kiss. especialy since im a little bit bisexual
