[edit] Biography

Main article: Restless Heart

Stewart moved to Nashville, Tennessee in the 1980s in pursuit of a career in baseball. Although he had received an athletic scholarship from Belmont College in Nashville, he decided to focus on a career in music instead.[1] After finding work as a demo singer, Larry joined the group Restless Heart in 1984 at the recommendation of the band's keyboardist Dave Innis, with whom Stewart had attended college.[2] Between 1985 and 1992, Restless Heart charted eighteen Top 40 singles on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart (including six Number Ones, as well as one single that was released only to the Adult Contemporary format).[3] Stewart left the group in 1992 in pursuit of a solo career; after his departure, the group's other members alternatingly sang lead vocals.[2]

[edit] Solo career

In 1993, Larry released his solo debut album on the RCA Nashville label. Titled Down the Road, the album produced a Top 5 country hit in the single "Alright Already", but later singles proved unsuccessful. In 1994, the same year that Restless Heart disbanded, Stewart switched to Columbia Records. He recorded the albums Heart Like a Hurricane (1994) and Why Can't You (1996) for that label.[1] He later moved to the independent label Windham Hill Records in 1999, where he recorded his fourth and final solo album, Learning to Breathe.

In 2004, Larry and the other four original members of Restless Heart (some of whom had not seen each other since a brief reunion in 1998) all reunited to record the album Still Restless on the Koch Records label.[3] On most of the tracks, Stewart again assumed his role as lead singer. Still Restless produced a Top 30 hit in the single "Feel My Way to You", but Koch Records closed its Nashville division shortly afterward.
