[edit] History

The area around Lampiri in the ancient times was the centre of the Achaean League and the today's Lampiri was the port of the ancient Erineus in which was destroyed in 412 BC by Athenian and Corinthian generals.

The origin of the name came from Gerardin de Lambrie who was a person for the whole area during the 13th century. during the Frankish rule in most of southern and central Greece. In the mid-15th century, the area was plundered and joined the Ottoman Empire. Greek rule did not return until the Greek Revolution in 1821 and later finally joined Greece. Lampiri saw their economy boom but the population stabily growing.

Houses were stone-built until the 1950s and did not surpass modern-style homes until the 1980s. It was linked with pavement in the 1980s. Most of the homes are abandoned today.

After World War II and the Greek Civil War, much of the population left for larger towns and cities especially the nearby Patras. The population decline slowed between the 1981 and the 1991 census, the population rapidly declined between the 1991 and the 2001 censuses.

Lampiri today is the touristic centre during the summer months.
