Lamby
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lamby was a model of scooter manufactured by Auto Products of India (API). The scooters were produced under license from the Italian machinery company Innocenti and were modelled on their famous product, the Lambretta scooters.
API was the first company to purchase a license to produce a scooter in India, and the Lamby models ruled the scooter market in the 1960s-1980s. The Lamby was considered a status symbol for the middle class who couldn't afford a car which was considered a luxury. As per API's agreement, they could sell the Lamby only within India, hence this model is virtually unknown outside the country.
Since the rights to the trademark name "Lambretta" were with Scooters India Ltd., API called its product Lamby.
