Lamb County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. In 2000, its population was 14,709. Its seat is Littlefield[1]. Lamb County is named for George A. Lamb, who died in the Battle of San Jacinto. Lamb County was the home of the Texas House Speaker Billy Wayne "Bill" Clayton, who served from 1975 until 1983.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,018 square miles (2,636 km²), of which, 1,016 square miles (2,632 km²) of it is land and 2 square miles (4 km²) of it (0.15%) is water.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 14,709 people, 5,360 households, and 3,993 families residing in the county. The population density was 14 people per square mile (6/km²). There were 6,294 housing units at an average density of 6 per square mile (2/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 76.10% White, 4.30% Black or African American, 0.68% Native American, 0.10% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 16.95% from other races, and 1.86% from two or more races. 43.46% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 5,360 households out of which 35.40% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.50% were married couples living together, 10.20% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.50% were non-families. 23.70% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.80% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.69 and the average family size was 3.19.

In the county, the population was spread out with 29.60% under the age of 18, 8.10% from 18 to 24, 24.20% from 25 to 44, 20.80% from 45 to 64, and 17.30% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 94.20 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.90 males.

The median income for a household in the county was $27,898, and the median income for a family was $31,833. Males had a median income of $26,434 versus $20,342 for females. The per capita income for the county was $15,169. About 18.00% of families and 20.90% of the population were below the poverty line, including 27.30% of those under age 18 and 15.30% of those age 65 or over.
