KVOD (90.1 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a Classical format. Licensed to Denver, Colorado, USA, it serves the Denver area. The station is currently owned by Public Broadcasting Of Colorado. It also broadcasts on other stations around Colorado including KCFP 91.9 FM in Pueblo, KPRU 103.3 FM in Delta (and also serves the Grand Junction and Montrose areas), and KVOV 90.5 FM in Glenwood Springs. Some of KVOD's programing is heard on KPRE 89.9 FM which also carries programing from KCFR.

In January 2008 CPR announced plans to purchase 88.1 FM, move KVOD to that frequency, and return KCFR to 90.1 FM.

[edit] History

KVOD was originally a commercial radio station, marketing as the voice of classical music for the Denver Metro area on 99.5 FM for many years from 1969 to 1995. In 1995 the station moved to 92.5 FM following the sale of the 99.5 frequency to Tribune Broadcasting who launched a classic rock station at that frequency.

In May 1999, the station was acquired by AMFM Inc. (formerly Chancellor Media Corporation). The new owners announced a format flip to Jammin' Oldies, and moved the KVOD call sign and classical music format to 1280 AM. Eventually, the station at 1280 AM and its extensive music library was acquired by Colorado Public Radio, and the call sign and classical format was moved to 90.1 FM.[1]
