I can advise the selfcritical and wise approach to Vajrayana and its Gurus as stated in

[edit] About my Personal Background for the Interested Reader on the NKT/Shugden Articles
For interested readers of the NKT/Shugden-article discussions I put here something about my personal background:
I got into the New Kadampa Tradition (NKT) (and thereby in Shugden issue too) at the end of 1995 when almost nothing was known about NKT than their own advertisement, which attracted me, and the published books of Geshe Kelsang Gyatso which inspired me.
In the beginning I had really good experiences but my mind changed step by step towards heavy sectarianism and arrogance and cut me off from the mainstream Buddhism and their high honoured masters and the Buddhist ordained Sangha. After getting shocked about Geshe Kelsang Gyatso's behaviour in Berlin (July 2000) and separating from him and the NKT I followed for further 2 1/2 years different Shugden Lamas, including Gangchen Rinpoche, Kundeling Rinpoche, Dagom Rinpoche and others.
After this I disassociated completely from all of them and tried for four years to understand what happened there and with me under that influence. Since six years I am disassociated with NKT, but have friends there as well. I was a NKT monk, NKT teacher (of the Foundation Program - FP), NKT Education Program Coordinator (EPC) and made advertisement (internetsite, announcements, flyers etc), posters and bookmarks in the past to attract new members. I was also very active in the Shugden Campaign and the press campaign against HH the Dalai Lama. I have friends also among many ex-members. I am not a member of FPMT nor do I have much contact to FPMT.* So I act completely out of my own feeling of personal responsibility not of any aganda of any group or authority (regarding my engagment in the NKT article).
Since 2005 some NKT members put strong effort to establish NKT's contorting views into Wikipedia (especially about Kadampa Tradition, New Kadampa Tradition and Shugden). After recognizing this and seeing that NKT were effective in the past in propagating their advertisement at the BBC ([1], [2]) I put much effort to correct the false facts and gave evidences, sources and proofs for it. I asked BBC by Email to revise the articles, to contact scientists in study of religions and Tibetan Buddhism specialists, reminded them on their responsibility as a public institution to work properly and gave short notes of the obvious false facts they took over from NKT. BBC didn't reply in the beginning or revised the articles. However, in September 2006 they have revised the articles (see: [3], [4]).
My efforts regarding NKT and the related articles can be seen as a trial to balance and correct these trials of NKT to establish wrong or contorted facts in Wikipedia. My main wish in working at the different articles is to provide correct, balanced, fair and useful information to the reader which do not deceive him.
If there is anything wrong, one-sided or biased I am happy to be corrected. Please excuse my stubbornness and if you can please be patient with me and correct me whereever you can.[Wikilove needed]

[edit] Reasons for Retirement
As one can check in the history of the Dorje Shugden article and New Kadampa Tradition article, some days before the NKT started their second media campaign against the Dalai Lama (on April 22, 2008) - under the name of Western Shugden Society - many new editors appeared to change these and related articles, like Tenzin Gyatso, 14th Dalai Lama, in a very 'interesting way' and based on poor sources, which were not acceptable to me. (I am not the only one who saw it that way and removed their additions.) At the talk page of the Dorje Shugden article sections were deleted or manipulated. I tried to restore that page. When I left Wikipedia, the talk page was this one.
Because
- I lack time
- there seem to be less WP editors or people interested in working out those articles according to WP-policies
- the difficulties to come to agreement with the Shugden and NKT followers
I resigned.
The versions I can accept are:
- New Kadampa Tradition, 07:33, 12 April 2008.
- Dorje Shugden, 19:49, 3 May 2008.
There were also considerable changes at the article of Kelsang Gyatso, although they lack verifiable sources, they are at least acceptable. I can agree to the version:
- Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, 14:38, 3 May 2008
I put all articles which are free from the typical NKT spins and include further articles on that website:
My friends from the New Kadampa Tradition whom seem to be a bit out of order or on the way to become a religious hate-group, and state things about the Dalai Lama like:
- "According to some sources, you were born in a Muslim family. When you were a child who did not know anything, some ignorant Tibetans acting as representatives of the Tibetan Government chose that boy as the reincarnation of the Tibetan Dalai Lama. Since that time, that boy wore saffron robes, and the local people jokingly nicknamed you as ´The Saffron Robed Muslim´. In this way, you received the position of the Tibetan Dalai Lama. Because of this, many people now keep your photograph on their shrines and worship you."
- "You have received a higher education in Buddhism from your kind teacher Trijang Rinpoche. However, the sad situation is that after you arrived to India your behaviour changed. You were continually against the intention of your Root Guru, Trijang Rinpoche, who is the lineage holder of Je Tsonghapa´s doctrine. You strived strongly to destroy Trijang Rinpoche´s spiritual tradition, which is the pure tradition of Je Tsongkhapa´s doctrine. Since 1996, you have regarded Trijang Rinpoche´s followers as your enemies and you are now giving orders to the ordinary people and monasteries to expel them from their society. Following your views and your orders, many people believe that Trijang Rinpoche´s followers who practise Dorje Shugden are their enemies."
- "...All these horrible situations have developed through the power of your evil actions. This is our valid evidence to prove that you are not Buddhist. Because of this, we also believe that you are the saffron robed Muslim. Throughout your life you have pretended to be a Buddhist holy being giving Buddhist teachings that you have stolen from Trijang Rinpoche. By doing this, you have cheated people throughout the world. In summary, it is clear that your real nature is cruel and very evil. Copyright © 2008 WesternShugdenSociety.org. All Rights Reserved. The Western Shugden Society is only the community or confederation of Wisdom Buddha Dorje Shugden practitioners -- it has no leader nor registered office." very interesting... see: 21st Century Buddhist Dictator - The Dalai Lama or 21st Century Buddhist Dictator - The Dalai Lama
(this was probably written by Geshe Kelsang himself), I like to remind what John Makransky stated upon these activities in 2000:
- A stunning recent example of this: some Tibetan monks who now introduce Westerners to practices centered on a native Tibetan deity, without informing them that one of its primary functions has been to assert hegemony over rival sects! The current Dalai Lama, seeking to combat the ancient, virulent sectarianisms operative in such quarters, has strongly discouraged the worship of the "protector" deity known as Dorje Shugden, because one of its functions has been to force conformity to the dGe lugs pa sect (with which the Dalai Lama himself is most closely associated) and to assert power over competing sects. Western followers of a few dGe lugs pa monks who worship that deity, lacking any critical awareness of its sectarian functions in Tibet, have recently followed the Dalai Lama to his speaking engagements to protest his strong stance (for non-sectarianism) in the name of their "religious freedom" to promulgate, now in the West, an embodiment of Tibetan sectarianism. If it were not so harmful to persons and traditions, this would surely be one of the funniest examples of the cross-cultural confusion that lack of critical reflection continues to create. (see: Buddhist Theology: Critical Reflections by Contemporary Buddhist Scholars, John J. Makransky, Roger Reid Jackson, 2000, Routledge, ISBN:0700712038. John J. Makransky, page 20, introduction Contemporary Academic Buddhist Theology; Its emergence and rationale)
Geshe Kelsang Gyatso said after the media disaster of the thirst media campaign (1996-1998): "This was my first experience of politics in this life. I pray that this will never happen again in the future." He said also: "However, my letter upset many Tibetan people and many Western practitioners who regard HH as their root Guru. I would like to apologize sincerely to all of them." Although I have no root Guru problem or problem with his statements, the honest excuse I accept. Please accept also my excuse, for all that may have upset you, I wish you all the best, thank you for your kindness, and hard work. ❤
Thank you Wikipedia, and all editors, incredible project, worthwhile, and I learnt a lot. Thank you Jimbo Wales☮! --Kt66 (talk) 21:33, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

* This was exactly the case when engaging in the articles until the end of 2007. However my affiliation with FPMT has changed since the 1st of January 2008. Before that I had poor (almost no) contacts, but at the moment I live at a study place of the FPMT but without being affiliated with the organisation.
