Kronos (alternate spelling Chronos) is a fictional character that appears in comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character first appears in Iron Man #55 (vol. 1, Feb. 1973) and was created by Jim Starlin.

[edit] Fictional character biography
Kronos was originally one of the Eternals of Titan, and many millennia ago he led a rebellion against his tyrannical brother Uranos. After a successful coup, Kronos fathered the Eternals Zuras and A'lars (also known as Mentor, the present leader of the Titanian Eternals). A scientist, Kronos is later atomized during a botched experiment, but lived on in astral form with amplified powers and abilities.[1]
Kronos rarely appears, and only when the situation is deemed critical. Examples include saving the soul of Arthur Douglas when killed by a barrage from the ship of the Titan, Thanos. Kronos then uses Douglas' soul to create Drax the Destroyer, a being intended to kill Thanos, his own grandson. [2] When Thanos comes into possession of the artifact the Cosmic Cube, he uses it to imprison Kronos, [3] who is freed when Thanos is defeated. [4]
Years later, Kronos resurrects Drax (with greater power but at the cost of some mental acuity) once he realises that Death has restored Thanos to life. [5] Kronos then encounters the disembodied spirit of the entity Maelstrom, and although explaining that he wishes to contact the spatial aspect of the universe, Infinity, inadvertently inspires Maelstrom to attempt to cause the collapse of the universe. [6] Kronos later glimpses Infinity when the entity manifests. [7]
Together with the combined cosmic pantheon of the Marvel universe, Kronos battles Thanos when he possesses the Infinity Gauntlet. [8] Kronos later listens to the entreaties of the heroine Moondragon, and restores Drax to his original, thinking state. [9]
[edit] Powers and abilities
Kronos was born as a member of the race of superhumans known as the Eternals. Originally possessing normal Eternal abilities such as superior strength and durability, Kronos gained cosmic powers as a result of the exponential augmentation of his life force. Kronos now exists as a disembodied intellect with an insubstantial form and occasionally manifests in humanoid form.
