In the Star Wars science fiction expanded universe, Kre'fey is the name of a Bothan family. Several family members served in the Bothan military, as well as the New Republic and the Galactic Alliance.
[edit] Laryn Kre'fey
Laryn Kre'fey was a General in the New Republic military, who held the position due almost solely to politics; his tactical and strategic prowess were not very good. About 2 1/2 years after the Battle of Endor, the Provisional Council of the New Republic decided it was time to focus on the goal of taking Coruscant. Laryn Kre'fey planned an invasion of the planet Borleias, codenamed Blackmoon, as a first step in the process. The planet was close to the Galactic Core, and the Council decided to approve the plan. Several officers, including Wedge Antilles and Admiral Ackbar expressed serious misgivings about the plan – especially the lack of intelligence about the planet – but Kre'fey's plan was allowed to go ahead.
The first attempt to take Borleias turned out to be a disaster for New Republic forces. Because the planet's Imperial installation commander – General Evir Derricote – had extra resources that neither his superiors or the New Republic knew about, he was able to keep Borleias from being captured. Kre'fey accompanied the forces that would take the planet in an assault shuttle. He died when the shuttle was hit by an ion beam and crashed into the Imperial installation's shields. Rogue Squadron was hit hard – two of its members died, three members were forced to eject from their ships, and another member was flying while seriously wounded. The Republic also lost a bulk cruiser during the attack, and only the timely return of General Salm's Defender Wing prevented the retreat from becoming a complete rout. The mission was a failure, and it took a second attempt to take the planet from the Imperials.
[edit] Karka Kre'fey
Karka Kre'fey was the grandson of Laryn Kre'fey. After Borleias was captured, he was angered by reports that stated that his grandfather had been poorly prepared for the assault on Borleias, and had made foolish decisions during the battle. Kre'fey confronted Rogue Squadron member Gavin Darklighter at a party. Kre'fey demanded to know if the reports were correct, Gavin responded by saying that they were. Despite being struck by Kre'fey, Gavin refused to let the young Bothan provoke him into a fight and Kre'fey left in anger.
[edit] Traest Kre'fey
Traest Kre'fey was an Admiral in the New Republic and Galactic Alliance forces in the New Jedi Order series of books. He led Alliance forces at a number of engagements during the war with the Yuuzhan Vong, including the battle of Ithor and the Fall of Coruscant. From his flagship Ralroost, Kre'fey participated at the final battle of the war in the space around Coruscant. He was present at the formal surrender of the Yuuzhan Vong. Following the surrender of the Vong, Kre'fey became the Supreme Commander of the Galactic Alliance Defense Force. However, he was soon forced to resign, as the Bothans refused to cease the ar'kai, a state of genocide they had declared on the Vong after the death of Borsk Fey'lya during the fall of Coruscant.
