My respone: Sure it is a nice place.--Bhadani 6 July 2005 02:20 (UTC)

Not sure I understand why ghazals are a big thing in Calicut. Could this be explained a bit further on the page ? ( P.S. I left Calicut when I was 5 and live in America and was looking at this for curiosity ) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 147.140.233.16 (talkcontribs)

[edit] KOZHIKODE or Admiral Zheng article

Is this the Article for KOZHIKODE or one for Admiral Zheng??????????? All but one or two sentences regarding his arrival should be removed.Bharatveer 05:27, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

I've cleaned it up. How is it now? -- thunderboltza.k.a.Deepu_Joseph |TALK 09:09, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Portuguese Empire

I have removed the category portuguese overseas empire .Bharatveer 13:55, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Why? Joaopais 16:15, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Trading posts do not make an empire.Bharatveer 10:08, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

They are very much part of empire, probably the most common way for colonisation to start. Piccadilly 13:37, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Lack of clarity

"the first European to sail directly from Portugal to India, landed in 1498." is not as clear as it should be. Was he the first European to sail directly to India, or only the first person / first Portuguese to sail directly to India from Portugal. Piccadilly 13:37, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

Someone dealt with this at almost exactly the same time as I made my query. Piccadilly 13:40, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

City Info box is needed for this page

[edit] Removal

Removed The only state in India where female population exceeds that of males Rakes 11:21, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

I think the title should incude Calicut in brackets.

[edit] Needed photos of places of worship

Can someone please guide where to get publishable pictures of Kuttichira Mosque(I dont know the exact name, but I guess Miskal Mosque(?), it has a traditional Hindu style architecture) and also of Thali temple. Both deserve to be there IMO. Zencv (talk) 22:57, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Directory of Restaurants and Hotels

I removed it first of all because they are pure OR and do not deserve to be there. Wiki is different from typical tourist guides which list things like list of all restaurants in the town. And these are purely private establishments for which one will not find references.

Apart from that, these kind of things make article look quite unprofessional. See articles of other cities like Bangalore for reference. Suigeneris (talk) 14:40, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Places of worship

WP is not a directory for temples/mosques/churches. IMO, the only places which could go in Kozhikode page are those places which had something to do with the history of the city(eg: Azhakodi Devi Temple or Miskal Palli or Pattalappalli) or those with any particular relevance with respect to the location (eg: Thali temple), and aboveall, those which can be provided with citations in acc. WP guidelines. The rest should be removed gradually.

Those who want to add the names of unknown temples/churches/mosques from their neighbourhood - please abstain or discuss here before doing so. Thanks Suigeneris (talk) 15:20, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
