Koshovyi Otaman (Ukrainian: Кошовий отаман, lit. Otaman of the Host) was the highest military ranks of the Zaporizhian Cossacks from the 16th century. It was elected by the elders of the Zaporozhian Host.[1] In 1723 this rank was replaced by a Nakazny Ataman, nominated by the Tsar of Russia. Among most famous Koshovyi Otamans were Ivan Pidkova and Ivan Sirko.
