[edit] 419 and the USA

I addressed this in Talk:South Africa, but as a reminder when you see U.S. federal, state, and local authorities talk about 419 they are talking about people in foriegn countries scamming Americans. In the Netherlands, South Africa, and the west African countries I had "advance fee fraud" included when it could be proven that it originated from within the borders of those countries. Sometimes 419 scammers have henchmen in the USA, but I haven't heard of widespread 419 schemes originating from the USA. By contrast the Netherlands and South Africa are more prominent as origins of 419 schemes. WhisperToMe (talk) 20:03, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

I immediately reverted FFMG's removal of the edits because it was clear that he did not pay attention to the source. I then added citations of various 419-related kidnappings and murders (one was of the former mayor of Northampton, Joseph Raca) that took place in South Africa. I added other citations from other sources (such as Times of India). WhisperToMe (talk) 20:12, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

I am not sure I follow what you mean by me not paying attention?
A section dedicated to AFF is out of place in the article about crime in SA in general. No other crime has such a section.
419 crime is not a 'major' crime in SA, you might want to mention it. But a whole section dedicated to is is simply wrong. FFMG (talk) 20:36, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

I have addressed FFMG's reply - Anyhow, regarding the Japanese man, I will remove his citation BUT the citations regarding Joseph Raca, George Makronalli, and Moe are still there.

I found a research paper from a South African University discussing 419 in South Africa, so we can see the sources used and check them out. WhisperToMe (talk) 20:52, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
