Kireyevsk

Kireyevsk (Russian: Кире́евск) is a town in Tula Oblast, Russia, located on the Olen River, 40 km southeast of Tula. Population: 26,284 (2002 Census); 30,503 (1989 Census).
It has been known since the second half of the 18th century as the Cossack village of Kireyevskaya (Кире́евская). Iron ore deposits started to be developed in the 19th century. During the Soviet times, the village was granted status of urban-type settlement and renamed Kireyevka (Кире́евка). It was granted town status and renamed Kireyevsk in 1956.
