[edit] Characteristics

Kilos Paru Paro means movement of the butterfly, so named for the characteristic mental and physical movements which are typical of this system. The system itself aims to reflect the relentless variation of movement in combat which is typified by the variations of a butterfly in flight. The key to this system is a working knowledge of the angles of attack and the ability to strike the opponent at angles that are difficult to detect - giving it a "blind spot" approach. The system works off of angles and complementary angles, both of which are arduously trained. Impact and edged-weapons based, the system also employs distinctive actions of opening, closing, and rotational movement that define and explain it when applied. Acknowledging its roots in what is generally recognized as the Filipino Martial Arts systems and styles from the Philippine Islands such as Kali, Eskrima, and Arnis, and like many other precedent and contemporaneous systems in employing an integrative approach, the Kilos Paru Paro Filipino System has also evolved with its own uniquely-styled combative and self-defense methods and tactics focusing on constant, contiguous movement (hence, the name).

[edit] Background and origins

Salvador Moralez Jr. began in martial arts by training with the Japanese Army on Ft. Bliss, Texas, in 1963. He was introduced to Filipino Martial Arts in the 1980s, and had the rare opportunity to learn and share techniques with Leo T. Gaje Jr., Edgar Sulite, Tuhon Gaudiosa Ruby, Ner Riodeca and Ted Lucay Lucay.

It was in the course of these developments that Mr. Moralez and Edgar Sulite became good friends. Mr. Sulite suggested that the study and understanding of Filipino Martial Arts would greatly enhance Mr. Moralez's overall ability as a martial artist. During this period, with encouragement from Sulite, Moralez began to evolve his own system.

In 1998, Tuhon Gaudiosa Ruby, Director of the United States Kali Association, in consultation with other members of the association, recognized and entitled him as Founder and Grand Master of the new system and gave it its name, the Kilos Paru Paro Filipino System.

In 2000, Ruby awarded him the title of Tuhon at his induction into the Filipino Martial Arts Hall of Fame in El Paso, Texas. He was also awarded his Doctorate and 10th Degree Black Belt ranking in Filipino Martial Arts at the ceremonies.

In 2005, the Kilos Paru Paro Filipino System was recognized by, and made an affiliate of, Arnis Philippines, 33rd member of the Philippine Olympic Committee.

In 2007, he was recognized as a 10th Degree Black Belt with Shinjimasu International Martial Arts Association, and was granted a seat on the Grandmaster Council of that association.[1] On August 4th, 2007, he was inducted into the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame as Outstanding Grandmaster (Texas) in Las Vegas, Nevada.[2]

He has 29 years of field and supervisory law enforcement experience at the city, county, and state levels within the state of Texas, and has taught counter assault tactics using his combat art to members of various law enforcement agencies to include the Texas Department of Public Safety Narcotics Service Division and the Enforcement Division of the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. He is the Founder and Executive Director of Hsin Lu International Martial Arts Association.[3]
