Kevin Sean Michaels is an American film director, producer and visual artist.

[edit] Biography and Career

Michaels was born in Brooklyn, NY and early on had a passion for directing and a love of film. At thirteen, he began making Super 8 silent films with his friends in the style of The Perils of Pauline and monster movies. In 1990, Michaels founded an Alternative music newspaper called Sound Attitude, which ran for five years, featuring interviews with acts such as Pearl Jam. He was also a freelance writer for other publications. In 1995, Michaels started writing and performing spoken word around New York City and worked as an Art Director for various companies. Michaels became Art Director for Troma Entertainment in 2002 and worked closely with filmmaker Lloyd Kaufman on Troma's Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead. He would hold this post for three and a half years before forming his own production company, VAMP Productions.

Vampira: The Movie was his first documentary in 2007. The movie profiled the first "horror host" on television, Maila Nurmi, with testimonials by Sid Haig, Julie Strain, Kevin Eastman, Forrest Ackerman, Debbie Rochon, John Zacherle, Troma's Lloyd Kaufman, Bill Moseley, Cassandra Peterson, Jerry Only and horror historian David J. Skal. The score was written and performed by Ari Lehman, the first Jason Voorhies of Friday The 13th. Vampira: The Movie was released in September, 2007 by Alpha Video. The movie won a Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Award in 2008 for Best Independent Production.

In 2008, Michaels completed a documentary, The Wild World of Ted V. Mikels on Director Ted V. Mikels who produced Astro-Zombies, The Corpse Grinders, Doll Squad and many others. His next documentary subject is Ingrid Pitt, star of numerous productions by Hammer Films.

As an actor, Michaels can be seen in the upcoming independent movies Ramzi Abed's In A Spiral State and Glenn Andreiev's The Deed to Hell.
