Thank you for your very prompt welcome and for putting my image where it belongs. After seeing your changes to the code I should be able to do it correctly next time. I do have a question. I have a much larger version of the nothofagus image, and I wondered what is the best size to submit as a full-sized image? {{helpme}}

Also, I gather from your userpage that you are interested in Australian flora. I'm an American photographer recently relocated to Tasmania (about four years ago, now), and I'm very interested in learning about my new home. My (Australian) partner is an environmental scientists, who aids me in this regard. At this point, I have a fairly extensive collection of photos of Tasmanian and Western Australian plants and would be more than happy to add them where needed.

Hi again KeresH. It is recommended that images be uploaded at the very highest resolution possible... but on the other hand it is recommended that images not be bigger than 10MB unless absolutely necessary. Usually this is not a problem if you upload in a compressed format such as jpeg. Uploading at the highest resolution available is not a problem, because the software can shrink it down on the fly. For example, the code "[[Image:Example.jpg|250px]]" will insert the Example.jpg image at 250px resolution, regardless of how big the full image is. You can upload in any format, but jpeg is recommended for photos. There's heaps more information of this kind at m:Help:Images and other uploaded files.

You're welcome to upload your images here, but you should know that images uploaded here can only be used here i.e. on the English Wikipedia. If you want to make your images available for use here and also in other language Wikipedias, other sister projects, etc, then it would be worth your while to create an account at the Wikimedia Commons]. You upload your images there, then include them in articles here in exactly the same way as you've already done. All the different Wikimedia projects are set up to look for images in their own project first, and then the Commons, so any images uploaded to Commons are available everywhere. Hope that makes sense.

If you're the sociable type who prefers to work alongside like-minded contributors rather than on your own, you might like to join WikiProject Tasmania, "an attempt to fill in, organize, and standardize articles about the state of Tasmania". It's simply a matter of adding your name to the list of members (optional), and putting the project page on your watchlist so that you can follow the discussions (optional). It's pretty informal. There's also WP:PLANTS if plants are your thing.

You might also be interested in keeping an eye on Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Tasmania - a category for articles where an editor has requested a photograph in Tasmania.

That's probably enough information for now. If you need any help, any question answered, any images deleted, etc, drop me a message on my talk page - I might not notice it if you only post it here.

Scuse the gender misunderstanding. As for the specifics and the particular - one of my best recollection of the very local specifics of the west coast was of a pub in queenstown (where I lived in the 1970's for a while) where a visiting Tas Symph orchestra violinist acccompanied a local singing Danny Boy - the pub still stands but is long long closed.... Oh, and as for the chinese curse (not taken as such of course) - may you live in uninteresting times (the blessing!) - as for Lonnie - if you havent been told regional rivalries in tas are ferocious at times - for a brief time (about a 100 years ago) for about 10 years) the west coast held the balance of three way power between lonnie, west coast and hobart - then the north south thing has been strong for a very long time since... anyways I am somewhat too free with historic info... Hi KeresH, that's a great picture that you've uploaded to Image:Tasmania South Cape Bay panorama.jpg!! I've recently written a German article for South East Cape, and I'm thrilled that there's now such a gorgious picture (I guess I have to rework the article now to deserve such a picture ;o)).

Just one request... could you please upload pictures directly to the Wikimedia Commons instead of only to the English Wikipedia? That way, all Wikipedias worldwide can use your pictures without having to re-upload them (as I'm going to do now for this one); if one uploads only to a Wikipedia server, other Wikipedias can't access them for their articles... Thanks a lot! Wonderful picture and exactly what I was looking for!! BTW, just curious: What's that first point to the right on Image:Tasmania South Cape Bay panorama.jpg, halfway before South Cape? Hi Ian. No problem. I haven't got any photos of the Pitwater Bridge (the name I know it as)and causeway, but I can probably get there in the next week or so. I live just a few K's off the Midlands Hwy, so I can take some local photos today. I'll grab a few from Constitution Hill (which is just up the road from our house) first, and add others as I find/take them. Thanks KeresH, as far as the Midlands Highway pic goes is it possible to take one between Bagdad and Bridgewater, So it can not only be used on the Midland Highway Page but also on the Brighton Bypass article? I added a photo to the Midland Hwy page, which may also be used on the Brighton Bypass page. I have yet to add it there as I am still going through the shots I took yesterday (some of which might be better choices for the Brighton Bypass). I also ended up with a few more shots of the Bridgewater Bridge with a bit better detail than the wide shot. I'll see if I can make any of them work for that page as well. I'm very much the generalist in my interests, so feel free to flag anything in my area (I live in the Southern Midlands, but get down to Hobart and the Huon valley frequently) you need photos of.KeresH 23:40, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks KeresH, i must say its a very good picture aswell, I've been thinking about the Brighton Bypass Page, and i was wondering next time you're in Brighton, if it is possible to take a picture of the Highway and the 50 speed limit sign (both in same pic)? [edit] Photo feedback

Hey there I just looked at your gallery and you've taken some amazing photos.. great stuff keep it up, photographers make an important and valuable contribution to wikipedia - after all "a picture is worth a thousand words". Haha dude no worries- I did the same thing by accident a number of times back in the day. Sorry I don't think I got around to replying.. just been busy lately. Whoa you're gonna love NZ with your photography background! We have a very diverse range of landscapes within a relatively small area so there's lots of variety. The landscapes in some areas are mindblowing although weather (in my experience) tends to make or break photos of them in terms of their quality. Are you familiar with the work of Craig Potton? He's possibly NZ's most well known landscape photographer, some of his work is amazing. Also, Grahame Sydney is another landscape artist, his medium is paint and his style is realism, his work in central otago is famous here and very iconic of that region. If you want ideas/inspiration for your photography here, the work of these 2 would be a good place to start (I'm not trying to be condescending it's just that I thought that if I were in your position I might be interested in this sort of thing) . Hey you didnt sign. Very careful with primary kids and this space I would say. Anyways - I would say it would be better to take them through the welcome pages/ drop the primary school article - and work on the locality - the sections can carry the primary school and other things - there was quite a thing about school articles here in the tassie project some time back - well worth checking out the tas project discussion on that. Hi KeresH,

You're absolutely welcome. I hope you'll be a champion of the fauna of Tasmania. Why dont you make a list called List of butterflies of Tasmania? It'll be a good article and a starting point for people to learn about Tasmaninan butterflies. More important, it acts as an index which allows you to work easily with all the species. List of butterflies of India serves this purpose for me. If you need help don't hesitate to post. BTW do keep abreast of events at WikiProject Lepidoptera which you may consider joining. We just had one policy discussion and there will be many more to come which will help all of us to write better butterfly/moth articles with a consistent look and feel. You may consider joining the WikiProject too. Just add your name on the project main page in the list of participants.

Hi KeresH,

Thanks for your post. I have a number of points you can use for improvement and embellishment of your list. I could have done the improvements myself but did not want to deprive you of the pleasure of developing your first list.

Opening sentance - please wikify Tasmania and the groups of butterflies (skippers, blues etc).

The opening needs to be developed into a short paragraph which explains about Tasmania & its butterflies. Something like

<Tasmania, being separated from Australia by a aa km wide Tasman strait(?) has a butterfly fauna having many species common to that of South Australia...as well as a rich endemic fauna of its own. Tasmania has HHH type of ecozone/etc.. XX number of species are protected under state/Australian law... The main threats to are...yy species listed in the IUCN red list, unfortunately ..species extinct. > You get the idea.

You need to check your lepidoptera scientific names by using LepIndex and Marrku Savela's site. This will give you exposure to taxonomy and also the diversity of lepifauna of the world. For example, the genus name Belenois has been depreciated decades ago, it is now Anaphaeis, see [2].

Over time you will need to create stubs to populate the list. Please feel free to approach in case you need help.

Check out your wikilinks. Caper White takes you to Caper White, but not the one you want. It goes to the Pioneer Anaphaeis aurota a different butterfly. This shows the danger of creating articles and links by common names in Wikipedia. You should always use scientific names. They may change but they always point to one species only.

Place a WikiProject Lepidoptera template at the top of your talk page. Where and how? Please see WikiProject Lepidoptera and read its talkpage. You have to give an argument for present state of quality of article and for the overall importance of the article.

Add a category '''[[Category:Regional butterfly lists|Tasmania]]''' to your main page.

Join Wikipedia:WikiProject Lepidoptera and peruse it. Its still under development. Please feel free to ask for any help you see.

Having followed a few feature arts etc - even if the name of the place is in the title - I still tend to try to link tassie and oz - for the geographically challenged. Hi KeresH. This looked good to me! The only things to be careful of are capitalisation (make sure it's consistent - capitals for species, no capitals for groups) and also links - I'm not sure that scientific names need to be linked too, but I've left them for the moment. The only other thing I'd wonder is if the groups under "Muridae", etc., are in any sort of taxonomic order. If they aren't, they should probably be in alphabetical order - I'd suggest by scientific name. I like the photos - a good addition. Frickeg 02:50, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
