[edit] Biography
Since taking office, Schmidt has worked to promote localized economic development through a new initiative called BidND. BidND invests North Dakota dollars in North Dakota financial institutions using a bid process with the state's financial institutions. Introduced in June of 2005, BidND has placed millions of dollars in over 60 North Dakota communities, garnering additional interest income for the state. Schmidt is President of the Midwest State Treasurers of the National Association of State Treasurers (NAST) and Midwest Region Vice President on the NAST Executive Committee. She is also on the Board of Directors for the NAST Foundation, which promotes financial literacy and education throughout the nation.
In her position as State Treasurer, Schmidt serves as a member of the North Dakota State Investment Board, The Teachers Fund for Retirement Board, the North Dakota Board of Tax Equalization, North Dakota State Historical Society, and the North Dakota Board of University and School Lands. Kelly and her husband, Chuck, reside in Mandan and have four sons.
