[edit] History
KAVU was founded on December 7, 1981 but did not take to the air until sometime in 1982. At the time, it began as an NBC network affiliate, but then joined ABC as a secondary affiliate from 1989 to 1994, after the previous affiliate, KVCT (now a Fox affiliate), dropped the ABC affiliation to become a religious station.
In 1994 KAVU would become solely an ABC affiliate.
Today, KAVU and KVCT both operate as sister stations, and also operate the market's NBC, MyNetworkTV, Univision, and Telemundo affiliates via low-power stations and/or digital subchannels.
