Regarding the fate of the vessel: according to the Swedish version of Wikipedia, in the section for the history of Kalmar (the city from which the name of the vessel was taken), the boat was sunk in a war against the Danes in the 1670's, just outside the city. In The Island at the Center of the World, Shorto suggests, but doesn't state, that the Kalmar Nyckel goes down in a Caribbean hurricane with Peter Minuit, after he departed Fort Christina for a load of tobacco. Actually, only that Minuit dies is stated, the fate of his transport is not recounted, and it is inferred, in rereading the passage, that Minuit is aboard the Kalmar Nyckel at the time of his death.
