[edit] Links to useful stuff

Probably should go on my user page, but it's here. Jwolfe 21:50, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome to the Wikipedia

Here are some links I find useful

Feel free to ask me anything the links and talk pages don't answer. You can sign your name by typing 4 tildes, likes this: ~~~~.

Hey, I just wanted you to know that I liked your additions to Ohio State Government. I know that there are actually a lot more elected offices at the local level, like zoning boards and other things, and I'd like to give them mentions too. Do you know of a good source for info on these kinds of things? Acsenray 21:37, 2 Sep 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

[edit] Andrew Cassels

Thank you for removing the captaincy succession box on the Andrew Cassels page. I had copied and pasted the stats from the Luke Richardson page I had also created and I guess I forgot to remove the box. Way to keep your head up! Croat Canuck 03:16, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Babe Ruth

I'm posting this message on you Talk Page either because you've contributed to the article Babe Ruth, or because you've edited other baseball or sports related articles. I've recently completed a revision of this article at Babe Ruth/rewrite. If you have the time, I'd appreciated it if you'd compare the articles and leave any feedback you might have on the rewrite discussion page. I'd like to reach a consensus before makeing major changes to the main article. Thanks for your help. --djrobgordon 20:02, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Mensa Members

Jwolf, I noticed you put up a “ This article or section does not cite its references or sources.” notice on the List of famous members of Mensa (1) a google search and/or existing wiki articles of listed people can confirm every person listed. (2) I could put references up for everyone but there will be approx. 40 to 45 references. Do you think a huge list of references is needed when a google search and/or wiki article can be done for each individual listed? Let me know what you think?--JohnnyCanuck 07:33, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

I think that, yes, every one of those names should have a reference to back it up. It's Wikipedia policy that every fact should be referenced. I think it's especially important on that page, because of the potential for abuse and vandalism. Plus, people add a name because they "heard" that a person is a Mensa member, when in fact that person is not and never was. To address your points:
1a) A claim on one Wikipedia page is no more authoritative than a claim on any other, so referencing Wikipedia is insufficient. It all amounts to, "It's true because we said so."
1b) I myself have done Internet searches to try to verify some of the names, and have been unable to find any reliable sources to confirm their past or present membership in Mensa. Mostly, I find mirrors of Wikipedia. Some of the names are listed as Mensa members in sources like the Internet Movie Database, which I don't consider authoritative because I don't believe the editors there fact-check before they accept user submissions. Case in point: Jodie Foster. I know she played a character in the movie Contact that was a member of Mensa, but I haven't seen any indication that she herself is or ever was a member of Mensa. I seem to recall seeing something once where she once denied ever being a member of Mensa. Without a reference to check against, it's just one person's word that she belongs on the list.
2) I think there are sources out there that list multiple Mensa members, so you wouldn't necessarily need a separate source for each name.
Jwolfe 08:29, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

I am adding all the references now--JohnnyCanuck 08:39, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

I see that. Awesome. Jwolfe 08:53, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Resident

Hello, I have noticed that you have contributed to several articles about Ohio. If you do not mind me asking, are you a resident? I could use help in Wikiproject: Ohio. Have a nice day. Ajwebb 03:12, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

Similarly, I have noticed a number of your contributions to Columbus, Ohio. Are you by any chance a member of the Dispatch Wolfe family? Feel free to delete my comment if you do not want it to appear on your talk page. --Wild Goose 15:00, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
No, but I get that a lot. Jwolfe 16:20, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
