Jupiter's Darling (film)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jupiter's Darling (1955) is an MGM film, starring Esther Williams. In this film, Williams (playing the Roman woman Amytis) helps Hannibal swim the Tiber River to take a closer look at Rome's fortifications. Amytis's boring fiance, Fabius, was played by George Sanders.[1]
The historical characters in the film include the Roman generals Fabius Maximus who plays the rival love interest (rather ahistorically), and Scipio Africanus who appears briefly. Among the Carthaginians, Mago, and Maharbal also appear.[2]
The film, directed by George Sidney, was based on Robert Sherwood's film The Road to Rome (1927), an anti-war comedy, and the events in it deviate somewhat from real history. The score was by Burton Lane.[3]
