In meteorology, a non-tropical storm is a low pressure system that is considered extratropical in nature, meaing that it does not contain tropical characteristics. Non-tropical storms are the everyday weather phenomena which, along with anticyclones, drive the weather over much of the Earth, producing anything from cloudiness and mild showers to heavy gales and snow. These storms most often form in the middle latitudes of the Earth. The definition of non-tropical storm includes winter storms, extratropical storms, low pressure systems, nor'easters, windstorms, and cold fronts.
