[edit] Personal life
Jowell (Joel A. Muñoz) was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on March 3, 1982. When he was seven years old, he became interested in rap music. Jowell was a fan of Vico C and often did imitations of him at talent shows. At age 14 Jowell began writing his own lyrics and became a recording artist.[4] Both of his parents were born in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Randy (Randy A. Ortiz Acevedo) was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1983. Ever since Randy was a child he enjoyed listening to rap and reggae. In his early teens Randy was an emerging artist who was featured alongside genre stars like Don Omar. [4] The first song he wrote was called "Siéntelo Mujer". Randy didn't make much fame by himself in the industry of reggaeton, until he met Joel and they became a duo.
[edit] Early career
They had previous years of experience, singing reggaeton and being a part of many albums before becoming the duo of Jowell y Randy. Jowell had recorded his first song in 1996 entitled Los Fugitivos, Randy recorded his first song in 1998, being a part of a CD produced by In The House magazine, alongside other various artists. Jowell & Randy first met in 2000 through a shared producer who introduced them.[4]. They later recorded their first single, Todavía Recuerdo, in 2002.[2] They had many recognitions from a radio station entitled Audio Activa 102.3 FM, which led them to record many more songs recorded onto many CD's such as Time TO Kill Vol.2, Ground Zero, Zona de Perrero, and Los Intocables y Kilates Vol. 2, all productions from Diamond Music.
[edit] Professional career
Jowell y Randy gained notability in the United States when they recorded their third single, Liga No Dan. This lead them to perform their single at the Hard Rock Cafe in Orlando, Florida.[citation needed] Later on Jowell y Randy were featured in the Chosen Few Vol. 2 CD and promoted the CD among 45 cities in and out of the United States.[3] From then on they have been featured in many other productions with various reggaeton artists and have been featured in many albums and singles. In 2006, Randy was featured in the song Siente El Boom, alongside song writer Tito "El Bambino". Later, they made the Siente El Boom (Remix) alongside Jowell and De La Ghetto. The song was featured on Tito's Top of the Line album. In 2007 the duo joined with other band members, Guelo Star, Maximan, and J-King, to form their new band Casa de Leones. The duo released their first album, Casa de Leones, as a group, on June 26, 2007.[5] '. Their first solo album was released on December 18, 2007.[6]
