Joseph Corozzo

Joseph "Jo Jo" Corozzo, Sr. (b. ca. 1943), is listed as the reputed Consigliere in the Gambino crime family, by the US government, under the leadership of his brother and alleged boss, Nicholas "Little Nick" Corozzo and has two identical twin brothers Gambino crime family soldier Blaise Corozzo and mob associate Anthony Corozzo. He is the father of the successful New York City criminal attorney Joseph Corozzo, Jr. He is the brother-in-law of Gambino crime family mob associate Vincent Dragonetti.
[edit] From Capo to Consigliere
During the RICO trial of John Gotti in 1991, Corozzo was listed as a caporegime by the FBI, listing his brother Nicholas Corozzo as a member of the Gambino Family Ruling Panel from 1992 to 1996.
Around 1992 or 1993, Corozzo was elevated to the rank of consigliere in the Gambino crime family. The only crime registered for Corozzo, is a plea agreement in 1994 for illegally owning poker machines in Louisiana.
In 2003, a capo and Ruling Panel member of the Gambinos, Michael "Mikey Scars" DiLeonardo, testified that Arnold "Zekey" Squitieri held the rank of Underboss and that it was both John "Jackie Nose" D'Amico and Nicholas Corozzo who took care of the day-to-day operations, with Joseph Corozzo as the final word in things, suggesting the position of consigliere since 1992. DiLeonardo also stated that these men have been controlling the family since the 1990s.
In February 2008 Corozzo was named as a defendant in the Operation Old Bridge indictments. Despite being in custody, his brother and current family Boss Nicholas "Little Nick" Corozzo, who was also named in the indictment, decided to flee and become fugitive. As of May 6, 2008, Corozzo is imprisoned and is awaiting trial at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, New York. [1]
Corozzo's son, Joseph, Jr. is a high-profile defense attorney and is not associated with organized crime.
