José Calado

José António Calado da Silva (born Lisbon, 1 March 1974) is a Portuguese footballer. He plays as a midfielder.
He was one of the most promising players from his generation, being noticed first at Estrela da Amadora, were he played from 1992/1993 to 1994/1995. He then moved to Benfica, staying there from 1995/1996 to 2001/2002, winning the Cup of Portugal in 1996. He played the two following seasons at Real Betis, then being loaned to Poli Ejido, for the first two seasons. He played there permanentely until 2006/2007. He was asigned to the cypriot team of APOP for the season of 2007/2008.
Calado had 4 caps for Portugal, 2 for Estrela da Amadora and 2 for Benfica. His first game was at 26 January 1995, in a 1-1 draw with Canada, for the SkyDome Cup, won by Portugal. His fourth was at the 2-1 win over Mozambique at 19 August 1998, in a friendly game. He was a member of the Olympic team that reached the 4 th place at the 1996 Olympic Games, in Atlanta.
Many people believe his career was victim of a rumour in 2000, of having an affair with a member of a portuguese boys band. Because of that he receive many insults from Benfica fans, and refused to play the second half of a game in 2000.
