[edit] Editing templates

Hi jbc. If you look at the wikisource of the page you'll have seen {{EU Constitution}}. This just means it takes the contents of Template:EU Constitution and pastes them into the page, so it can be changed across a whole series of pages in one go. If you put "Template:" in front of any of these you will get to the actual template you can edit as normal. Hope I have explained this okay. — Trilobite (Talk) 23:41, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Linux and GNU/Linux

There is no consensus for this change, in fact the consensus is against it. Also, the way you tried to carry it out (as a cut-and-paste "move" rather than a proper page move) is invalid in itself, because it loses all the page history. -- Curps 01:10, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

If you actually wish to propose this change, you should go to Wikipedia:Requested moves and propose the change there (with a discussion and vote) rather than unilaterally trying to make this change against consensus. -- Curps 01:12, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

Current real-world usage uses "Linux" to refer to the operating system and "Linux kernel" to refer to the kernel. Note there is already a disambiguation page at Linux (disambiguation). Despite RMS's wishes, "GNU/Linux" never caught on and is only used by a minority of the Linux-using community (eg, Debian) and mostly not at all by the media. I believe that if you call for a discussion and vote at Wikipedia:Requested moves you will find that the consensus here reflects this real-world usage. -- Curps 01:22, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Arecibo message binary numbers.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Arecibo message binary numbers.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you.
