[edit] MN Parks

Jon, I am not sure how to work parks into the MN wiki project. I think that there is enough support for parks to be its own division (including state forests, BWCA etc). What do you think? -Ravedave 19:39, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

Sounds good--Jonathan Kovaciny 19:41, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Minnesota

Jon, is it ok if I roll back your MN state edit, so we can better merge the two versions? The was some information lost in your additions and I liked some of the old wording better. What do you think? -Ravedave 04:46, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

N/m I was confused with some of the diffing. It looks pretty good. I will make some minor edits in place. -Ravedave 04:54, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
I didn't merge the famous people in, it's on my TODO list. -Ravedave 04:59, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Minnesota as FA

I'm working on getting Minnesota to FA status and I could really use your help. Just choose a section and make it the best you can! -Ravedave 04:53, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Birthday?

I see you updated your age. Is it your b-day? -Ravedave 00:47, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

Not today, but it was. Thanks for noticing. — Jonathan Kovaciny (talk|contribs) 01:26, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Transportation in Minnesota

Good job on shrinking this section in the main state article and the new page. Kablammo 20:58, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

yeah thanks, I just did a quick hack-job creating that page on lunch, as you could see by me completely missing water and air in the new page. -Ravedave

[edit] CS

Thanks for the private message, CS.

[edit] Consumer energy conservation strategies

Done. You may use it to help you in improving other Wikipedia articles or tranwiki to associated sister projects (as you proposed), but not repost the original article. - Cheers, Mailer Diablo 15:12, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject Disambiguation Talk Request

This is a form message being sent to all WikiProject Disambiguation participants. I recently left a proposed banner idea on the WikiProject Disambiguation talk page and I would appreciate any input you could provide. Before it can be approved or denied, I would prefer a lot of feedback from multiple participants in the project. So if you have the time please join in the discussion to help improve the WikiProject. Keep up the good work in link repair and thanks for your time. Nehrams2020 21:32, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Histpop

Hi, Jonathan! I've been tinkering with some minor modifications to the Histpop template and wondered if you would take a look and let me know what you think? Thanks! -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 15:06, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Energy portal & future selected articles

Hi! Over the past couple of months I've been spending much more time than I should developing the Energy portal, and intend asking for a portal peer review within the next day or so.

The portal provides a showcase for energy-related articles on Wikipedia. One of the most prominent ways is via a the selected article that is currently changed every 6 weeks or so. It would be good to increase this turnover, and with three Wikiprojects dedicated to energy-related topics and a good number of articles already written, I'd like to suggest that members of each Wikiproject might like to use the 'selected article' to feature some of their best work.

With this in mind, I'd like to suggest that your Wikiproject bypasses the normal selected article nomination page and decides collectively which articles are worth featuring - or these may be self-evident from previous discussions - and add short 'introduction' to the selected article at the appropriate place on page Portal:Energy/Selected article/Drafts, which includes further information. Your personal involvement would be welcome!

Please make any comments on your Wikiproject talk page, my talk page, or on Portal talk:Energy/Selected article/Drafts, as appropriate. Gralo 15:36, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProjects

Was there a discussion that I missed regarding changing the "background" section on many wikiprojects (for example, Lutheranism and Saints)? It seems a little bit like a unilateral change -- especially without a comment on the Project talk pages or so much of as an edit summary as an explaination. -- Pastordavid 21:37, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

It's just an effort to keep all the religion-related WPs visible to each other and help people discover other projects they might be interested in. The way it is was previously, there were a few "related projects" listed on each main project page. If a new project was started, it would likely go unnoticed by the participants in other projects. Because the Related WikiProjects section is a template, it can be shared across many WPs. Since many of these projects share similar goals, I thought it would be helpful to keep people in the loop. If you don't like it for your project, I have no problem with it being removed. I was just being bold. — Jonathan Kovaciny (talk|contribs) 02:11, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Please help improve Plug-in hybrid

You are listed as a participant in WikiProject Energy development, so I am asking you to please consider helping to improve the plug-in hybrid article. This is an ad hoc article improvement drive. BenB4 08:13, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The DREAD Weapon System

Why did you add the DREAD Weapon System article again? It was previously deleted. Plus that all claims about it comes form one source: David Crane at http://www.defencereview.com

The DREAD is in all probability a hoax. Simple physics calculations plus knowledge in ballistics show that this is an impractical and inefficient weapon.... most likely not even implementable. Check all the comments to the articles that are linked to the WP entry for in-depth refutes of teh Defence Review article.

I think the article should be put up for deletion (again)... perhaps even a speedy deletion. Please comment. --J-Star 12:11, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

I can't tell you if it's a hoax or not, and I didn't know that the article already been deleted once, but I originally saw it published in Popular Science in late 2006; I can't find that article online. It's also published here in May 2005 by New Scientist (already in the External links section). I don't know if PS or NS did any verification or not, but it has published. Even if it is a hoax, it has been published in two reasonably reputable sources, and I'm not aware of them retracting anything they said. — Jonathan Kovaciny (talk|contribs) 13:44, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
If you read the New Scientist article you'll see that its source was... the supposed inventor and Defence Review. Everything about this weapon stems from one source and that source is not reliable because it proves nothing substantial.
Further more there are fairly obvious physics problems about supposed weapon. For instance, even with the absolutely lowest figures stated about the DREAD's capacity, it needs a peak power output of 500 000W. That's half a megawatt or about 680 horsepower. Plus that in the supposed "Letters from the inventor" on Defence Review homepage the writer makes false statements such as a spinning disc will have no angular momentum or that there will be no recoil because the weapon simply releases the bullets... but ignores the fact that this leaves the flywheel unbalanced which gives even worse forces on the weapon.
I'm adding the article to AfD. --J-Star 17:23, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] On-page "What Redirects Here"

Took a crack at a test version: User:Splarka/fetchredirects.js

You can try it out by adding to /monobook.js:

importScript('User:Splarka/fetchredirects.js');

It adds a link to activate it in the toolbox (below the search box) and displays the results below the page title.

Of course, this method has several limitations:

  • If a page has more than 1000 links in it, finding all the redirects is not always possible with Special:Whatlinkshere
  • For pages with lots of redirects, this method may be rather slow.
  • It just displays the links (having an editable box would be a major AJAX undertaking, requring multiple edit/save/delete calls to the software -- you'd have to ask someone who knows AJAX more than I, for that)
  • other unforseen limitations are also hereby implied

[edit] Filter content by I.P. extension

Fascinating idea. This could also be used to create region-specific sections of articles. Stephen Ewen 06:30, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Umac logo.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Umac logo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 02:26, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of Template:Minnesotatasks

A tag has been placed on Template:Minnesotatasks requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

Thanks. --MZMcBride (talk) 21:42, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
