Jonas Armstrong

Jonas Philbrick Armstrong (born 1 January 1981.^[1] ) is an Irish actor, best known for his appearances on British television. He is currently playing the title role in the BBC One drama series Robin Hood, his highest-profile role to date.

Jonas Armstrong was born in Mount Carmel Hospital, Dublin, Ireland on 1 January 1981, exactly one minute after midnight on New Years Day. He was the first baby born in Ireland that year.^{[citation needed]} He was raised in Lytham St Annes, Lancashire, England. He has 2 siblings, a brother called graeme and sister, both younger. He was educated at Arnold School in Blackpool, England, and while a student there, took part in many school productions.

Armstrong graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in 2003, where he performed in productions including Twelfth Night, The Caucasian Chalk Circle, The Crucible and Ulysses. Armstrong has a BASSC (The British Academy of Stage & Screen Combat) Certificate in stage combat. Other key skills include period dance and accents.

Robin Hood began on 7 October 2006, with Jonas playing the main lead, Robin. Average viewings are 8.2 million each Saturday. Series 2 has just been shown on television in the UK. Jonas will film series 3 from late spring 2008, although The Metro reported that he did not want to do another series, for fear of being type-cast. It is highly probable that he will leave at the end of the third series.^{[citation needed]}

On Monday 4th February, The Daily Mirror reported that Armstrong has landed a major role in a Hollywood movie, causing the producers to worry about his future as Robin Hood if he is offered more roles.^{[citation needed]}

Jonas has been married to American actress Corrine Carrey with whom he has three children. The two have been married for five years. They first met on the set of the Stage Play, "The Keeper" in 1999. In 2003, Jonas proposed. They now live in Rockingham, Northa Carolina.
