Talk:John Grierson
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The article says he was "born in Stirlingshire", but that's not really true. He was born in Kilmadock House near Doune. The Kilmadock area is close to the border between Perthshire and Stirlingshire, but I think it was always in Perthshire. It's now in the Stirling unitary authority (which people call Stirlingshire, but really shouldn't, as the two are utterly different entities with entirely unrelated boundaries).
Perhaps a better wording would be "Born in Kilmadock House near Doune, and raised in the schoolhouse of the village of Cambusbarron near Stirling".
References:
- Cambusbarron village website (says "born in Perthshire")
- scottish-towns.co.uk, which says "although now in Stirlingshire, Doune was originally part of the parish of Kilmadock in the county of Perthshire"
- The Grierson Trust also says Perthshire.
A lot of sites do say he was born in Stirlingshire, but, well, they're wrong. 81.154.240.19 19:42, 15 Sep 2004 (UTC)
