John Spender

John Michael Spender (born 2 December 1935) is a former Australian politician. Born in Sydney, the son of politician Percy Spender, he attended Yale University before becoming a barrister. In 1980 he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the Liberal member for North Sydney. He held the seat until his defeat by prominent independent Ted Mack.[1] In 1996 he was appointed Australian Ambassador to France, a position he held until 2000.
