John Moses Cheney was born January 6, 1859 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin[1] Graduated from the Boston University Law School in 1886 and moved to Orlando, Florida, where he and a partner started a private law practice. He served as Orlando city attorney, a United States District Attorney, a U.S. Judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, and as a Trustee at Rollins College. He died on June 2, 1922.[2] [3]
The road in east central Florida which became Florida State Road 50 was named after him in 1924 and portions of the road remain and are called "Old Cheney Highway".[4]
