John Augustus Stone

John Augustus Stone American dramatist and playwright, born in Concord, Massachusetts in 1801; died in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 1 June 1834.
For actor Edwin Forrest he wrote Metamora; or, The Last of the Wampanoags, a play regarding the life of King Philip.
He also wrote The Ancient Briton, Fauntleroy, La Roque, The Demoniac, and Tancred.
He was drowned in a fit of temporary insanity in the Schuylkill, at Philadelphia, and his monument there bears the inscription: "Erected to the memory of the author of 'Metamora' by his friend, Edwin Forrest". Some sources cite Forrest's success with Stone's plays and his paltry remuneration as causing his suicide.
