[edit] Image tagging for Image:ANSYS Screenshot.png

Thanks for uploading Image:ANSYS Screenshot.png. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Remote desktop connection icon.PNG

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Remote desktop connection icon.PNG. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. When you use a generic fair use tag such as {{fair use}} or {{fair use in|article name}}, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. AlistairMcMillan 00:04, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for adding a fair use rationale. However, note that the fair use template says: "It is believed that the use of low-resolution images of logos..." AlistairMcMillan 18:02, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Astroid

Hello. I noticed you replaced the astroid graphic at Astroid. It looks good, but it has "k=4" in the upper right, and there is no mention of k in the article. Could you please edit that out? Thanks. Doctormatt 20:22, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the comment, I've made the change! Joelholdsworth 00:41, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for fixing that. Cheers, Doctormatt 17:05, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] {{Copy to Commons}}

Hi, please only add this template to free images. Fair use images and such are not allowed on commons! Thanks, Bryan 22:13, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] TeX

Hello. I reverted your edit to Euler's formula because

  • Although TeX looks good when "displayed", it often looks bad on Wikipedia when it's "inline"; either it's too big or it gets misaligned or the like;
  • "sin\," and "cos\," are not correct usage; if TeX is used for them, they should say \sin\, and \cos\,. The preceding backslash not only prevents italicization but also results in proper spacing. Thus:
\sin x\,
versus
sin x\,.
Michael Hardy 16:10, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
You've got a point with the \sin x\, thing. That was just a stupid mistake. I also agree that the inline TeX looks a bit odd in Windows, although it looks absolutely fine in Firefox in Ubuntu. I personally would have opted to have the article syntactically correct, because you don't know how the page will be viewed. I think it might be worth putting in a request for the wiki developers to tweak the inline tex presentation.Joelholdsworth 16:45, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free image (Image:ANSYS Screenshot.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:ANSYS Screenshot.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 21:08, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Non-free use disputed for Image:ANSYS Logo.png

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:ANSYS Logo.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 17:16, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Request for edit summary

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you. – Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 02:57, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Xpsviewer.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Xpsviewer.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 08:38, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
