[edit] Wikipedia:Translation into English

Hello Punkmorten,

I reverted WP:TIE to a redirect to Wikipedia:Translation, since having two places to request and to update the information about the ongoing translations is asking for trouble.

But of course I didn't forget the existing translation requests. I made a perl script that allows to migrate them quickly to the new system. Actually, I did already migrate a lot of the existing translates.

See Category:Translation sub-pages (182 items as for 14:41, 2 January 2007 (UTC)). It already contains pretty much of all the good translation requests from 01-october-2006 to 20-december-2006. I thought it was not useful to migrate all the old translation requests, because the information about them had a great chance to be not accurate anymore (either it was already translated, or the english article became better than the original in the meantime).

But if you find missing translation requests which are worth to migrate, just copy/paste their wiki-code on my talk page, and I will take care of them.

That's for you :

Can you create the appropriate pages for "no" and/or "tr" as explained on Wikipedia:Translation/*/Lang  ?

[edit] problems viewing translation requests

I have some trouble trying to read the translation requests: the text looks strange. For example, if I click on "show" at Wikipedia:Translation/*/Lang/de next to "Mark der DDR" it looks like this: (image).

I also put up a couple of general questions about the new German translation page on its talk page and on the Wikipedia talk:German-speaking Wikipedians' notice board if you have any time. I thought it would be more useful to discuss it there than on a user page.

(The new scheme looks very interesting but a bit complicated for me; I think I'll just stick to translating things I fancy, informally!) Saint|swithin 21:00, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

Sieht die Seite für dich immer falsch aus ? Wenn ja, welches Navigator benutzt du ?

Ja, genauso wie vorher. Ich benutze IE6, vielleicht nicht der beste aber immerhin der meistbenutzte Browser im Internet. Saint|swithin 11:21, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
ich bin gerade auf IE7 aufgestiegen und das sieht immer noch so aus. Saint|swithin 12:09, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Translation

If there some reason why someone cannot translate directly onto the Translation page? We're talking a small number of very short articles, you know. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 23:55, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

The question is : how are translators who doesn't know yet your project are supposed to explore the three million pages on en.wikipedia.org, and find the page where you are requisting this translation. With this system, a translation page is created and centralize in one place all the information about the translation request, but can be displayed in many different relevant places.
But of course, you are the one to decide in last ressort.
Cheers.
Jmfayard 01:43, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
Answer: They don't know anything about it until they join the Project. That's the intention. I'm sorry if you thought we wanted to become an outpost of Wikipedia:Translation, because we don't. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 07:25, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject France

Hello! We are a group of editors working to improve the quality of France related articles. You look like someone who might be interested in joining us in the France WikiProject and so I thought I'd drop you a line and invite you! We'd love to have you in our project :-) STTW (talk) 21:18, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Template

Could you please look at Template talk:Translation#Template Broken? The template is rather esoteric, & I don't understand what is going on. - Jmabel | Talk 20:29, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

I think it should work now. If not, email me at Special:Emailuser/Jmfayard Jmfayard 14:09, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] "Just a test"

I can't help but wonder why not use a page in user space for "tests" such as the one at Talk:Linux.  :) 80.233.255.7 14:00, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Translation project

Have you been monitoring how this has gone since your new system was adopted? Do you have any idea whether this is going better or worse in general, compared to how we were doing it before? Or any specifics of problems that have cropped up & should be addressed? - Jmabel | Talk 23:25, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Organization of Wikipedia:Translation

As someone who heavily uses (both as a translator and as a proposer of translations), the layout of the translation project irks me to some degree as at the turn of the month, all projects prior to the current month are relegated to subpages from which people don't know to look for them. Is there any possibility you could create a single page where all the unfinished translations, proofreading jobs, etc., are listed since even pages like Wikipedia:Translation/*/Proofreaders_Needed don't contain up-to-date data on the status of projects that should be listed on it? In addition, automating the category jumping of projects that have moved from one stage to the next would be a brilliant idea as right now everything has to be manually moved back and forth. Thanks for any help you can provide with these two issues. -Yupik 06:28, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Translation Project Advise

I'm working on my first German→English translation project, and I'm wondering if I should be working in a sandbox until the project has reached a certain state or what. I don't see much discussion on the translation talk pages. Is participation low or am I on the wrong pages?--THE FOUNDERS INTENT TALK 02:09, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Archival

A question about archival, I've done a number of translations and set the status to completed. One of them goes back as far as January, 2007 and it is still listed on the Wikipedia:Translation/*/Lang/fr page. In the interest of cleaning up the list, where should these completed translations go? Is the archival supposed to be done automatically or should the people that close them manually archive the entries somewhere? Thanks, Regards Vrac (talk) 07:38, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
