Jesús Andrés Padilla (born March 3, 1987 in San Jose, California) is a Mexican-American professional footballer, currently playing as a midfielder for Chivas de Guadalajara, wearing jersey #15. He made his debut August 8, 2006 against Toluca. A game which resulted in a 1-0 victory for Toluca.
Padilla is currently the subject of controversy in Mexico due to the recent discovery of his US birth certificate and the policy of the Mexican club of not employing "foreign" players. [1] The club's initial reaction to this has been to consider the player "Mexican by nature" as he is recognized by Article 30 of the Mexican constitution as a Mexican born citizen (in spite of prior tradition to play only those actually born in Mexico) and continue playing him.
