[edit] Coaching History
[edit] Saginaw Valley State University
Coach Kill landed his first head coaching job as the fourth football coach at Saginaw Valley State University in 1994 where he produced five-straight winning seasons, including back-to-back 9-2 campaigns in 1997 and 1998.[4] Kill compiled a 38-14 record in five years as head coach where his teams led NCAA Division II in rushing each of his last two years and his last season was second in the nation in both total offense (498.3) and scoring (42.5).[5]
Coach Kill is ranked third at Saginaw Valley State in total wins and second in winning percentage.[6]
[edit] Emporia State University
Coach Kill was the 20th head football coach for Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas and he held that position for two seasons, from 1999 until 2000. His overall coaching record at ESU was 11 wins, 11 losses, and 0 ties. This ranks him tenth at ESU in terms of total wins and ninth at ESU in terms of winning percentage.[7]
[edit] Southern Illinois University
Kill was named to the head coach post at Southern Illinois University in 2001. A highlight of his history at SIU is the 2004 season, where under Kill's guidance the Salukis went a perfect 9-0 against NCAA Division I-AA opponents and outscored competitors by more than 30 points per game. Southern Illinois finished a perfect 7-0 in Gateway Conference games. Southern Illinois earned the No. 1 ranking for the final 10 weeks of the year, and garnered the No. 1 seed in the 2004 postseason.[8]
At SIU, Kill was the first coach to produce four consecutive winning seasons and is credited with turning the football team around to a winning program.[9] On September 26, 2006, he became the schools all-time leader in winning percentage after a "pounding" of Indiana State University, 55-3.[10]
[edit] Northern Illinois University
On December 13, 2007, Northern Illinois University in DeKalb announced that Jerry Kill was hired as their new Head Coach.[11] He will be replacing twelve-year coach Joe Novak, who retired after leading the Huskies to a successful program.[12]

[edit] Coach Kill Cancer Fund
Kill suffered a series of seizures that included one on the sidelines in the waning seconds of an October 15, 2005 home loss to Illinois State.[13] Subsequently, Kill was diagnosed with kidney cancer and has since started the Coach Kill Cancer Fund foundation to assist low-income southern Illinois residents with treatment. [14]
[edit] Personal life
Kill earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education with a minor in Biology from Southwestern College in 1982 where he played under coaches Phil Hower and Dennis Franchione. He was raised in a "Working class family" and became the first member of his family to graduate from college.[15]
