JBS S.A. is a Brazilian meat processing corporation. It was founded as Casa de Carne Mineira in 1953 by José Batista Sobrinho, better known as Zé Mineiro, in Anápolis in the Brazilian state of Goias[1]. JBS has eight facilities in the United States, six in Argentina, twenty-three in Brazil, and four in Australia[2]. JBS has nearly 40,000 employees. From the four countries where the company has facilities, JBS exports beef and other meat products to every nation in the world[3].
JBS S.A. is parent company to several other meat brands and companies including Swift & Company, which it acquired in 2007[4], and National Beef Packing Company, acquired from U.S Premium Beef[5][6]. JBS has also expressed intent to acquire Five Rivers Ranch Cattle Feeding Company, prompting 72 U.S. organizations to urge the Justice Department to "scrutinize the merger, issue a second request (for more information from JBS), and strongly consider blocking the deal"[7].
