Coordinates: Jaynagar Mazilpur (Bengali: জয়নগর মজিলপুর) is a city and a municipality in South 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is a part of the area covered by Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority.[1]Both the places are also identified separately a Jaynagar (or Joynagar) and Mazilpur.

As of 2001 India census[3], Jaynagar Mazilpur had a population of 23,319. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Jaynagar Mazilpur has an average literacy rate of 76%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 82%, and female literacy is 71%. In Jaynagar Mazilpur, 10% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Debaparasad Sarkar of Socialist Unity Centre of India has represented Joynagar assembly constituency from 1977 to 2006. He defeated Jnantosh Chakraborti of Janata Party in 1977, Kumud Bhattacharjee of Indian Congress (Socialist)/Indian National Congress in 1982 and 1987, Praeanta Sarkhel of INC in 1991, Rabindranath Basu of Communist Party of India (Marxist) in 1996, Abul Hossain Laskar of CPI(M) in 2001, and Asish Ghosh of CPI (M) in 2006.[4]
Sanat Kumar Mandal of Revolutionary Socialist Party has won the Joynagar (SC) (Lok Sabha constituency) from 1980 to 2004.

Certain areas of South 24 Parganas district has been identified where ground water is affected by arsenic contamination. [5]High levels of arsenic in ground water was found in 12 blocks of the district. Water samples collected from tubewells in the affected places contained arsenic above the normal level (10 microgram a litre as specified by the World Health Organisation). The affected blocks are Baruipur, Bhangar I, Bhangar II, Bishnupur I, Bishnupur II, Basanti, Budge Budge, Canning I, Canning II, Sonarpur, Mograhat II and Joynagar. [6]
