Jason Hart (legislator)

Jason Hart is a member of the Metropolitan Council of Nashville and Davidson County, representing the 8th district. ^[1]

Jason Hart is the Vice Chair of the Health, Hospitals, and Social Services Committee. He also serves on the Public Safety - Beer and Regulated Beverages Committee and the Education Committee. ^[2]

Jason Hart works in retail. Previously, he has worked as a deputy at the Davidson County Sheriff's Office, as a Combat Medic in the U.S. Army, and as an investigator in the Attorney's Office. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Middle Tennessee State University and from U.S. Army Medical Specialist College. He has been bestowed with the National Service Ribbon, the Commendation Medal by the Tennessee National Guard, and the Expert Field Medal Badge by the U.S. Army. ^[1]

Jason Hart sponsored a resolution that would, upon passing, tighten sex offender laws. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation had reported that 37% of the state's offenders, required by law to register their address with the state, were not in compliance with registration laws or were listed at an unknown address. ^[3]

Jason Hart voted against canceling zoning in Percy Priest Lake, for Sylvan Park historic zoning, for Lower Broadway historic zoning, for a Westin Hotel on Lower Broadway, and for rezoning Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center.^[4] On the third reading, he voted against the proposal for a new ballpark for the Nashville Sounds,^[5] which included provisions for hotels, condos, shops and other businesses on the land adjacent to the stadium.^[6]

Jason Hart was one of six legislators that may have violated Tennessee's open meetings laws, according to The Tennessean, after gathering without notice to discuss procedure on the eve before a final vote on a $1.35 million budget. ^[7] He appeared in court over allegations that two of his boxers attacked a neighbor's cat. ^[8]
