Talk:Jank 1000

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This band isn't important enough to deserve a page for each album (their biggest claim to fame is that it's the new singer of Zebrahead's old band). Wikipedia is not a resource for documenting every band that ever existed and their entire recorded output. Also, there is a lot of conjecture in the article (the "serving his country with pride" bit, for example) and the article has a very non-neutral tone. I tried to clean it up to meet Wikipedia standards, but it was reverted by another user. I will be changing everything back to what I had worked on. I will recommend it for deletion if it is again reverted to its current state. Tdogg241 18:11, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

This article serves as an extension for the Wikipedia entry for Zebrahead, as it provides insight into the first band of Matty Lewis. I understand you may feel that a part of the article may seem "non-neutral", that would mainly be due to some of the article being from the band's archived official site. However I do not see why you found it necessary to condense the article so much as a considerable amount of information has now been left out which provided insight into Matty Lewis' career which is not appropriate in his own Wiki. DD Daz 20:26, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Copying even part of the article from another source is a violation of Wikipedia's standards. The fact that it was non-neutral in tone makes it even worse. Regardless, I didn't mean to make it out like I was bashing the band. But a band that never seemingly made any impact outside of their home state probably shouldn't even be on Wikipedia. Rather than tag it for deletion right away, I decided to clean it up a bit, since Matty has gone on to bigger and better things and it can still serve a purpose for fans of Zebrahead. In the process, a lot of unnecessary information was deleted and I attempted to remove the non-neutral tone of the article. I think the article as it stands now is much cleaner and should be kept around. Tdogg241 22:16, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

As the original author of the source used, I fail to see how that would be a violation (correct me if I'm wrong?). What you may consider to be "unneccesary information" is entirely subjective, and I would assume that anyone reading this article will want to know the breif history of Jank 1000, and seeing as Wikipedia exists to provide information on countless topics, it is only right that some of the original content you removed be put back in. I have rewritten the original entry which is now still as informative (near enough) as the original however is neutral in tone. I don't see how this version can go against Wikipedia guidelines and hopefully this version is an article we can both agree on.DD Daz 19:47, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

While this version is better than the original, it still contains a lot of anecdotal statements:

  • The trio gained a small following and after their first independent EP release Suburban Punks Are Go!! and became the front runners in the Nebraska punk scene.
  • The band quickly gained popularity from fans in So-Cal , Neveda, and Arizona after playing clubs and venues to warm reviews.
  • The band continued to expand their growing fanbase...
  • ...and in May of 2002, booked, funded, and supported entirely by themselves...

All of those statements read like they were written by a friend/member of the band. If either of those applies to you, you may not be the best person to edit this article. They read like a celebration of the band's accomplishments, which is not a neutral POV. Those points aside, I don't see the relevance of "grabbed the attention of Singerman Entertainment." I checked their website and I can't tell if they're a management company, a booking company, a label, or something else. Their site only includes the names of the other bands mentioned in this article and has links to those bands' own websites, but no information about what this company actually does. I'm going to assume they're not a label, and the statement as written sounds like they did not join their roster or enlist their services. Finally, the statement regarding their breakup ("Due to the strains of writing, producing and recording the new material...") sounds to me like they weren't really cut out to be a band in the first place. Again, apologies if you were a member/friend of the band, but that should be rewritten to reflect the actual reason they broke up, which to me sounds like either personality conflicts, finances, or just not wanting to be a band anymore. Anyway, I propose this: rather than go back and forth on this and disagree with each other and keep undoing each other's edits, why don't we try collaborating to make this a better article? Oh and my apologies for accusing you of plagiarism. You didn't mention that you were the original author of the source material. Tdogg241 21:22, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
