[edit] Finish Up

wikimachine, i think we're almost there for the korea portal featured article (i don't think the fac template is supposed to be used for the korea portal, it's for the main wikipedia page). i found a couple nice korean sources (added to "external links" section in article), & here are some english sources that you may want to integrate & cite in the article, because right now, it almost looks like a summary of just one korean book. even though some of these only briefly mention jang, it would be good to have more sources for the article. [1] [2] [3] [4] thanks for the hard work! Appleby 01:06, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks Appleby for your participation! These are pretty nice sources that I couldn't find before. (Wikimachine 03:33, 22 June 2006 (UTC))

[edit] Questionable claims

How can you claim that Jang Yeong-sil invented the first water level gauge, when the Nilometer had already been around for thousands of years? --Reuben 05:57, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

The claim about the rain gauge is questionable at best. Clearly, there had been other devices for collected and measuring the amount of rain before this one. If there's some particular characteristic that Jang Yeong-sil's rain gauges had that no other device previously had, the article should say what it is that makes these stand out. --Reuben 06:03, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

Water gauge is different from nilometer. Water gauge measures the amount of water that is stored in a reservoir of water. Nilometer just measures the height of the Nile river. (Wikimachine 22:49, 17 October 2006 (UTC)) If you want to make this more neutral, I recommend that you add ref about the nilometer in the article. Something like "although nilometer was first..." P.S. Discuss the rain gauge issue at rain gauge. (Wikimachine 22:50, 17 October 2006 (UTC))

[edit] World first rain gauge

Korean economy during the Choson Dynasty was agriculturally based, and its economy was vulnerable to elongated or consecutively occurring droughts. Therefore, there was need for ways to better manage water. In 1441, Jang invented the world's first rain gauge, Jang invented first rain gauge in 1441, called cheokugye (측우기), [1] [2] [3][4][5][6][7] and, by 1442, a standardized rain gauge with dimensions of 42.5 cm (height) and 17 cm (diameter) was introduced throughout the country to gather data on the yearly averages of precipitation throughout the different regions of the country.[8]

Please discussion first before you change.Surehoped3 19:25, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
Perhaps something is not clear here--you have instigated removing the above change (persisting in even removing facts which has subsequently been sourced), and then leave this warning; are you warning yourself? The article was actually quite stable before your arrival. Perhaps you'd care to "discuss you change."? --Cheers, Komdori 19:33, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
you must prove why this article must change. something is not clear? what is unclear? you delete my source without convetion, too. [[5]] Surehoped3 19:44, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
The article was unchanged for months until you changed it; thus, you are the one doing the changing. You are also removing sourced material, such as the book on Indian history. --Cheers, Komdori 19:51, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
you delete article without convince. 1. what is unclear? 2. why this article must chnage? 3. need citaion. Surehoped3 20:01, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
1 and 2) I agree the article didn't need to be changed, so I'm not sure why you changed it. 3) The citation for the claim you evidently had a problem with was in fact added [6], which you subsequently deleted. (The Culture and Civilization of Ancient India in Historical Outline; Kosambi, 1982) --Cheers, Komdori 20:21, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
one month before, you delete article without convince . i did not changed. you changed. and i revert it. because, article proved by many trustwothy source.
"Although rain gauges had been used in ancient Greece and India[9]"
can't confirm that source. yeah, i know, that source is offline book. could you please upload this books scan image? i really want confirm. and, why you can not prove by other source? that book is only source? but, as you see, world first rain gauge. this source proved.[7] [8] i offer these source. so, don't delete these source. why you delete these source without convetion?
[24] ~ [30] source contents written that cheokugye was world first. but why do you ignore these 7 source? Surehoped3 20:30, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
like already metioned, 1. what is unclear? 2. why this article must chnage? 3. need citaion. Surehoped3 20:34, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
