James V. McClintic

James Vernon Mcclintic (September 8, 1878 - April 22, 1948) was a U.S. Representative from Oklahoma.

Born near Bremond, Texas, Mcclintic moved with his parents to Groesbeck, Texas, in 1880. He attended the public schools, and AddRan University (now Texas Christian University), Fort Worth, Texas. Accepted a position with a wholesale dry-goods company at St. Louis, Missouri, in 1901. Traveling salesman in 1902. He moved to Oklahoma Territory and engaged in mercantile pursuits at Snyder, Oklahoma. Homesteaded a farm in Texas County, Oklahoma. City clerk of Snyder, Oklahoma, in 1908. He served as clerk of Kiowa County, Oklahoma in 1909. He served as member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives in 1911. He served in the Oklahoma Senate in 1913 and 1914. He studied law at Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. He was admitted to the bar in 1928 and licensed to practice in all the courts of Oklahoma.

Mcclintic was elected as a Democrat to the 64th Congress and to the nine succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1915-January 3, 1935). He served as chairman of the Committee on Expenditures on Public Buildings (65th Congress). He was an unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1934. Executive assistant to the Governor of Oklahoma 1935-1940. He was an unsuccessful candidate for nomination in 1941 to fill a vacancy in the 67th Congress. Administrative assistant in the District of Columbia Department of Vehicles and Traffic in 1940 and 1941. He served as special assistant to the Secretary of the Interior 1941-1944. He served as member of the Readjustment Division of the War Department in 1944 and 1945. He resumed the practice of law. He died April 22, 1948, on a train in the vicinity of Chicago, Illinois. He was interred in Rose Hill Cemetery in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
