Talk:Jadoo
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The term "Jadoo" refers to a type of magic or witchcraft or esoteric worship (depending who you ask) practiced by some Muslims. It is generally frowned upon in public, but usually tolerated to a small degree in private life, or when the purpose is to improve one's walk, rather than to thwart it.
Some practitioners of Jadoo use it for evil purposes, but most who are accused of it are just worshipping Allah(SWT) in a style that is more in line with their cultures.
The most infamous practice associated with Jadoo is female circumcision. It is very common in Egypt and among some tribal cultures. Its roots are in legends about creation and ideas that women are not supposed to be weak and led by their sexualities like men.
A less frowned upon and even more common Jadoo ritual in the middle east is the hiring of a belly dancer for weddings. This goes way back to ancient Egypt, and is supposed to bless the couple to be fertile.
