Hello there. Firstly, many thanks for your contributions to the above article - always nice to see someone take an interest in the area of campaign medals. I note that you recently moved this page from its old location at Crimea Medal to British Crimean War Medal. The general convention for medals is to use the actual medal name, with a national disambigator if the medal name is shared between countries (eg XXX Medal (United Kindgom), etc). I take it that you had the Ottoman Crimean medal in mind when making this move, but in this case the official name of the UK medal is the 'Crimea Medal' (which, to the best of my knowledge, is not a shared name) - the page move really tends to cloud the whole issue.

As for your initial creation of a separate article under the misspelling "Charlie Caroli" - don't worry about it. If you make that sort of mistake again, you don't need to request that your version be deleted; just add the content to the earlier article (which you did), and change the new version into a redirect. Where does this information come from? Also, doesn't it seem more likely that he would have fathered a daughter before the attempted assassination (when he lived in London) rather than after he was sentenced to life imprisonment? Kaldari 15:51, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

Wow, that's fascinating. If you could let her know that I am currently doing research on Rubino, I would love to hear from her. He is a figure of some intrigue due to the unsettled mystery of his true loyalties. He claimed to be allied with the anarchists, but worked for the Italian secret service to spy on them (although perhaps as a double agent). Also, your student may be unaware of the article recently published about Rubino since it was published in a very obscure Italian journal (devoted to the history of the city Rubino was born in). I would certainly love to trade a translation of the journal article for information about Rubino's family and perhaps even his life after prison. I will send you my email address and snail mail address and perhaps you could pass them along to her. I would be very glad to hear from her or even her grandmother (if she is still alive). No, unfortunately I haven't heard anything from the family yet. Thanks for passing along the date and place of death. It's good to know that at least :) If you talk to your student again, perhaps you could ask if the family knows Rubino's date of birth as well. Finally received the Italian journal with the article about Rubino. The article is 8 pages long (more than I was expecting) and even includes a photo of him (which I have added to the article). Now I just have to find someone who knows Italian! I still haven't heard from the family, but if you see your student again, you should let her know that I would be happy to send them a copy of the article (or a translation thereof). I'll email you a PDF of my scans. I'm in the process of getting them translated. Might take a few weeks for the translation though. I'm currently talking with an historian in Pittsburg who is working on a book about propaganda by the deed. Obviously Rubino would be a good addition. I would still be quite interested in finding out the name of Rubino's wife and daughter in Britain, although I understand if your student is concerned about protecting her privacy. Thanks for the messages. Do you mean that you have an actual obituary from 1966, or are you merely saying that Wikipedia articles state (without giving a reliable source) that it was 1966? Because I have not seen anything on Wikipedia that gives a source, whereas both the G&S Archive AND the G&S discography give a date of 1965, also without any citations. I saw another website from a production of The Zoo that says that the auction was at Southeby's in 1865, but that is just a director's note. A mystery? -- Ssilvers 14:28, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

I have received several responses now, and everyone agrees that it was 1966. We cite a Times article from 1966, and I suspect that that article gives the info. Also, I have been referred to a G&S Journal cite that I have now added to the articles, and I changed the dates in The Zoo article to 1966, so now all the dates agree. Thanks for catching this! I'm happy to put the fair use summary on the QEII photo, but right now the image summary says that it is a free picture, uploaded by the owner of the copyright, which is better than fair use. He is back. Please note his response regarding the images. Has he addressed your concern about them? If so, how do we retrieve them? Also, what do you think about the changes to the article? I tried to explain to him about the need for independent citations, but I have no way of reviewing the new reference that he has provided in Estonian - It is not obvious that it supports the fact for which he has cited it. Also, we have long been struggling with how to support his claim that he sang with the Estonian National Opera. To turn all the refs into proper <ref> format with a description of the article's author, title and date (and page numbers, where relevant), like I did at Oudin's article. But you're right: it's not really that important. Frankly, I'd rather that you dug up more refs for Blackmore, since I still think he's probably not notable (having essentially had an understudy career), and shouldn't have an article - He's certainly of interest to D'OC fans, but as someone like O'Mara shows, Blackmore's career was not notable per WP:NOTE. Since the WhoWasWho website is so excellent, it makes minor members of the D'OC seem to be much more notable than they really are, by giving all the gorey details of their careers there. Just as a friendly heads-up, when you file a checkuser case, it's usually wise to post notification of the case (including a link to the report) on the talkpages of the affected users. [edit] The Whitechapel Murders

I have tried to make sense of the whole thing at The Whitechapel Murders (1888-91) by just listing the facts and not engaging in Ripperologist flights of fancy about who Jack the Ripper was or how many people he killed (the Ripperologist's precious 'canonical five') or whether he leaped into the Thames after the Kelly murder or was committed to an asylum etc etc. The Ripper article is in the process of being replaced by a better one but we agreed on the talk page there that as not all the Whitechapel murders could be ascribed to JTR that a seperate article should deal with the eleven Whitechapel murders listed in the Metropolitan Police file on the case, whether or not they were commited by the legendary Ripper. Tell me what you think. The article is fairly rudimentary at the moment and could be much improved. Colin4C (talk) 17:50, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi there. You said "If I'm correct it is at least a violation of code B." If this is right, then it shouldn't be too hard to make the request. Just set up the request like last time, but you need to include a link to the ArbCom remedy in question, and then a link to the actual edits, or a few of them if it's a lot, (in diff form) that would be a violation of that remedy if it is indeed DreamGuy that made those edits. Finally, a short explanation in words as to why you suspect it is a sockpuppet (how is the behavior similar?) would be nice. Hi, saw the new request, and recommend a couple formatting tweaks:

• Move the new request to the top of the page, above the archive line
• As Dmcdevit said above, be sure to include a link to the ArbCom page
• Try to give a couple specific diffs that say, "Look what the sockpuppet did," and "see how this is similar to what DreamGuy did." Just editing the same pages isn't necessarily proof.

• On the CheckUser page, move your new section to the top of the page, above the line that says "put new requests above this line."
• In your comment on the CheckUser page, add verbiage like, "DreamGuy is currently under ArbCom sanctions (Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/DreamGuy 2), and it is my belief that he is using alternate accounts as a way of avoiding the sanctions." You may also wish to point out the thread on the talkpage, at Wikipedia talk:Requests for arbitration/DreamGuy 2#Request for extension of restrictions at DreamGuy 2), where there is discussion about DreamGuy and his tendency to use alternate accounts. --Elonka 21:49, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

Basically, you need to write a report from the assumption that whichever clerk is reviewing the report, that they may have never heard of DreamGuy in their lives, have no idea who's in the right or wrong, and have no idea that there was ever any kind of ArbCom case. I would suggest that you elevate the issue to the ArbCom Enforcement area, as DG is under their purview. Dmcdevit has intervened on at least two prior occasions to save DreamGuy's bacon. He past behavior indicates that he cannot be relied upon to act neutrally in this matter. I'm not sure you are aware of it, but 1) you aren't an admin either, 2) admins aren't in charge of content, 3) you don't just get to say you aren't done with something and demand nobody else touch it, 4) you don't have to nominate something for deletion if it's a redirect to an article that already fully covers a topic, 5) your comments about you supposedly knowing Wikipedia policy and so forth and that you demand I not do things are highly incivil, 6) false reports for revenge purposes don't get you anywhere.

Hi Jack. Just advert to the fact that a lot of the separate articles on the Whitechapel murder victims in the wikipedia are very shoddy indeed. My guess is that those who have tried to improve them in the past four years get attacked by a mystery assailant and expire whilst waiting for the impotent guardians of law and order to arrive on the scene, thus leaving said articles in said shoddy state. Dorset Street used to have a wikipedia entry but some editors had it deleted as 'non-notable' whilst my back was turned...I recently created Flower and Dean Street which nobody seems to have noticed yet. In the past some wicked editors attempted to have my Wormwood Street deleted but fortunately I was informed about this and managed to save it in time. Some editors have odd ideas about notability, judging what is notable by the criterion of their own ignorance about the subject.
