From 2000 until November 26, 2004, he had been Secretary General of the conservative Young Swiss People's Party, the youth section of the Swiss People's Party.[2][3] He quit this office after irregularities surrounding the financing of a party event were made public.</ref> Stauffer was a member of the Young Swiss People's party board from 1998 to 2005.[citation needed] During this period he recruited many new party members, making the Young Swiss People's Party the largest political youth organisation in Switzerland.[citation needed] Mr. Stauffer was the director of the referendum campaign against a law for a state-run maternity insurance,[citation needed] which was voted down with 61% "No" votes [1]. Since he quit office he is a permanent member of the party's steering committee and advises the party board on various issues.[citation needed]
Stauffer represents the Young Swiss People's Party in various international organisations as European Young Conservatives (EYC)[citation needed] or the International Young Democrat Union (IYDU); he is currently a vice-chairman of IYDU.[4]
