[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Rensopasolini1.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Rensopasolini1.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Ducati

I'm actually sorry I didn't see your Ducati history time line suggestion before i'd written so much. Perhaps I've done too much even.., but looking at the motorcycle stuff on Wiki, thought it should be more comprehensive. The facts are there, and maybe a few non-facts too, but good Ducatisti will weed them out, yes? (Currently trying to uncopyvio User:Seasalt/Vincent , but will probably do more on Ducati... left replies on Ducati talk page Seasalt 12:17, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ducati - american spelling pls

Could you tell me the logic behind this? Seasalt 10:22, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

Consistency in the article. It is arbitrary, had the article originally been written in the Queen's English, then I guess it would be maintained as such. But having "utilise" in one location and "color" in another is inconsistent. Izaakb 16:38, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

Regarding the logic of dividing the history pages: The basis of division ended up being two valve and multivalve, even though the actual titles don't reflect it. Early floundering with the naming means Ducati_V-twin_motorcycles has already been moved once, and I am not necessarily finalised on that anyway. At the moment, it covers two valve motors, the desmodue models....while Ducati_Quattrovalvole_motorcycles covers multivalve....earlier division was air cooled and water cooled..... So if I want to change the titles again, I want to be confident about getting someone to deal with any "double redirects".

Singles, Bevel Camdrive Twins, Belt Camdrive Twins, Belt Camdrive Four Valve Twins

or

Singles, Bevel Camdrive Twins, Belt Camdrive Air-cooled Twins, Belt Camdrive Liquid-cooled Twins

or something else.Seasalt 10:57, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

I think you can just make the "V-twin" page with bevel and belt sections. They are sufficiently distinct. Izaakb 16:38, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ducati Elettronica

was the name of the company at the time, not Ducati Energia. As far as I can find out Ducati Energia came into existence in the eighties. Historically the company split in 1953 into Elettronica and Mechanica. Energia did not yet exist.

you are correct, I think I mentioned that in the talk page later. There are also two other Ducati companies, can you name them? i'll add them to the article later... Izaakb 14:41, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
No, you've got me there. I definitely dont get the $64000. Er, Wikipedia:WikiProject/List of proposed projects#WikiProject Motorcycles Any thoughts? Seasalt 01:55, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
I just reviewed the article and saw that Ducati Corse was listed -- so that means only one isn't listed (as a separate entity). It is DucatiSistemi, an independent subsidiary of DucatiEnergia. www.ducatisistemi.it

Ok, put it in, but are u interested in the project thing above? need 5-10 interested parties to get a project page sort of stuff. Forgot this one User:Seasalt/Project Motorcycles Goes with it.Seasalt 13:52, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

Interested, but I am pretty focused on Ducati and a few other Italian marques. I'll check out the page. Izaakb 15:06, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

Does that post mean yr in, or just agree about the classification being dodgy? I just realised we've been using mainpage User:Seasalt/Project Motorcycles.Seasalt 15:22, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

The pattern of edits from 132.241.246.111 convince me that this is a single user over these many months. Probably a persistent connect in a dorm room or somesuch. —12.72.70.101 00:12, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Motorcycle to dos

I'm sorry, but I don't understand the reasoning behind some of the additions to the Motorcycle to do list. All the marques you added are already on the List of motorcycle manufacturers that is there for reference as a "to do" so it seems redundant. IMHO, adding more individual marque names will just make the list too long - they are listed already and really don't need another link, so I hope you don't mind but I will remove that edit. Regarding the additions to the "Stubs", Benelli (motorcycles) is not a stub but a reasonably long article so why you added it I don't know. The other two are still stubs, though neither is new and might be better under the heading "Expand". That is up to you. Thanks for the input. Cheers ww2censor 17:27, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

I was working on a list, and was working in preview. I think something happened, and my computer's been down until about 10 minutes ago.Izaakb 18:11, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
No problem. Cheers ww2censor 03:28, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] the Chang Jiang

just about the definition of Chang Jiang. In fact,Chang Jiang is the most popular name for Yangtze River.while the latter generally describe the downstream of this river.Ksyrie 03:25, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

I understand that, but that name is practically unknown in English speaking countries. That information would be more useful in the Yangtze_River article. A quick survey of English websites with Google pulled up over 1.9 million hits for "Yangtze River" and only 732 for { "Chang Jiang River" }, and 64,000 for { "Chang Jiang" river }. For the disambiguation page, it is appropriate to state that the name "Chang Jiang" is lesser known because, in English, it simply is lesser known. I will be re-editing the page. Thanks for your help. Izaakb 17:24, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
I totally agree that Yangtze/Yangtse River is the usual English name and that the Wikipedia entry should be at 'Yangtze River'. In fact, I was the one who originally moved the article from 'Chang Jiang' to 'Yangtze River'. However, I'm rather dubious about the need to go out of our way to explicitly mark 'Chang Jiang' as 'lesser known', especially as some would argue that 'Chang Jiang' is a more legitimate name for the river. (I personally don't agree that it is a more 'legitimate' name in English, but I think it is, well, slightly provocative to dismiss the official Chinese name as 'lesser known'.)
The most important information at this redirect page is that 'Chang Jiang' is the Chinese name of the river. The fact that there is a redirect, and information given at the article itself, should be sufficient to allow users to form a judgement on the status of usage.
Bathrobe 01:29, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for your understanding :) I'm afraid I'm not getting as much understanding from our friend Ksyrie. I don't believe the points he is making (at the Yangtze River talk page) are valid; in fact, a lot of them seem to be beside the point. What is more, thanks to my inept comments on the matter, we seem to be straying into territory that is not even strictly related to the question in hand :(
Bathrobe 03:37, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

Izaakb, it's very strange... I don't know if it's coincidence or what. As you may know, I'm living in China, where Wikipedia was blocked for quite a few months.

Well, following my comments to User Ksyrie in which I gently suggested that his attitude was "arrogant", I am now unable to access either the Yangtze River page or the talk page! The page loads halfway and then stops loading! Or I get a notice that "the connection to the server was reset" (Firefox).

I don't know if I'm being paranoid or not, but what concerns me is the possibility that someone is monitoring controversial debates concerning China and blocking access when things get too hot! This is following a similar pattern that occurs when you access a page that the Chinese government doesn't like, namely: "the connection to the server was reset", followed by a period (5 or more minutes) when you can't access the Internet at all. As long as you don't go back to the forbidden site/page, your access to the web is restored after a while.

In this case, Internet access is not a problem, but access to that page (Yangtze River and talk page) is denied, followed by a period when I can't access Wikipedia. After a while I can access Wikipedia again -- unless I try to access "Yangtze River" or the talk page, in which case the pattern recurs.

Perhaps I am being oversensitive, but this is really strange behaviour!

I assume that user Ksyrie has been reacting rather negatively to my comments. It seems to be his passionate belief that Chinese people should not be expected to use the Latin alphabet. Well, he is entitled to his opinion. Unfortunately (or fortunately), I'm unable to see his response!

Bathrobe

your inability to access to wiki is because Edit conflict, non of business of censoring, just be cool, people always have many different POV,but we still live together. Ksyrie

I have responded at Ksyrie's user page. Bathrobe 03:40, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

Izaakb, thanks for that explanation. The page is fully accessible again this morning. I'm afraid I may have been too suspicious; perhaps it was nothing more sinister than a technical error. But not necessarily.

[edit] Suggested changes to Gun control in the United States (by state)

Please put your replies to my suggestions here. Thanks

I am not sure what this place is, and am not all that interested. I googled my stepfathers name on a whim and this place popped up. You asked if anyone was interested in writing an article about KENNETH Ballew. His name was KENYON FRANKLIN BALLEW. I will admit it is good to see that his experiance has sympathetic interest, rather than the ridicule we suffered in the reality of it all. My name Is now Renee Laseter hailing from Anchorage AK. I was an infant at the time of it all. But growing up amongst the backlash was always interesting. Contact me @ srondedbylunatix@hotmail.com.

[edit] UK Company records

You have such a good grasp of Ducati's ownership/structure that I wondered if u knew how to find out stuff about defunct UK brands? There is a spot in AMC Sunbeam BSA history that brings up seemingly contradictory material. The date of sale to Associated Motorcycles would appear to be 1938 or near. Who officially owned it? (Colliers, Matchless, or AMC) They sold it to BSA in 1943? Who designed the S series, AMC or BSA? I have seen a letter in a classic motorcycling magazine chiding the author of an article and finishing with "and remember, AMC never built Sunbeams." which suggests non-production from 1938-1943..... but one website says "produced till 1939" another says "designed a new S series of motorcycles"... any ideas? Seasalt 12:42, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

I can dig around, but it probably won't do any good for UK companies. I have access to Ducati history because TPG did a lot of research on them and I have access to those documents. Izaakb 15:59, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Please Advise

Yaf has unilaterally changed "Gun control laws" in the Gun Politics article to "Firearms laws."[1]

See: Talk:Gun_politics_in_the_United_States#Gun_control_laws

Once again, the subsection was very clearly intended to cover gun control, and cites specific gun control measures. Since these changes were made only after I used it as a reason to keep the "by state" article's original title, I suspect, though I do not claim, that this is an attempt to nullify the strongest point I made on the "by state" talk page. It would be easier to assume otherwise if Yaf would actually participate on the talk page. --Haizum μολὼν λαβέ 03:52, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

Oh, and for the sake of credibility, it would make more sense for you to restore the title of the "by state" page. I'd be happy to help with any stray links once that is done. --Haizum μολὼν λαβέ 05:56, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ducati images

It's understandable to be upset when images you upload are tagged for deletion. I would suggest you follow all instructions when uploading fair use images. They require that you've actually checked to see if no free use image exists and that you've placed a fairly detailed fair use rationale on the image descriptions. Roguegeek (talk) 20:25, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

When replacing fair use images with free use images, I don't see a reason to have a discussion on it considering all fair use images on Wikipedia should be replaced right away. Also, please check out the WP:MOS. The format of the images in the table of the Ducati page are not conforming to Wikipedia style guidelines. I will be changing this again and please do not edit back to the table format as you already have today. Thanks. Roguegeek (talk) 20:35, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
Like I said, it's a courtesy. Also, you are again citing something that I cannot find. There is no style prohibition on placing a horizontal row of photos. →Guide to Layout: Images

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:PaulSmartLE1000.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:PaulSmartLE1000.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Roguegeek (talk) 01:57, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ducati free use images

I completely agree with you on the images. I'm really not fond of them what so ever. Wish I could have spent more time on it, but the show was incredibly crowded. They fill some of the voids for the mean time, but please feel free to replace them with alternative free use images when they are made available. I will also be trying to shoot more encyclopedic (ie. more clear showing more detail with better angles) images as opportunities present themselves. Thanks for your feedback. [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Ducati apollo.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Ducati apollo.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Well I've been campaigning: talking to the "Keeper" of the bot that tagged it: User_talk:Carnildo#An_obscure_motorcycle , trying to contact current owner of the black and silver one too. The gold one has disappeared, fate unknown. Seasalt 01:42, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

I can only say excellent. Yr post is probably as good an argument as could ever be mustered to support "fair use". Seasalt 00:25, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. I must say, I've never met as tough a jurist as Wikipedia. I've argued at least 2 dozen copyright cases on both sides and never seen such remarkably zealous and strict interpretation of 'fair use.' Izaakb 03:17, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Should details of attempts to contact at User_talk:Carnildo#An_obscure_motorcycle be appended or linked to the "rationale" at Image:Ducati_apollo.jpg, or is there only Carnildo to satisfy? I am totally inexperienced, so defer to yr judgement there, and hope for the best. - Seasalt 06:19, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

No, that's the problem. It's that any self-appointed IP specialist can come along and hassle you about it. That is the joy and despair of Wikipedia in a nutshell. Seems it would be best to have some individuals who are bona fide attorneys handle some of this kind of thing (since it is a legal issue). Plenty of armchair barristers mucking life up as is. [edit] Your VandalProof Application

Dear Izaakb,

Thank you for applying for VandalProof! (VP). As you may know, VP is a very powerful program, and in fact the just released 1.3 version has even more power. Because of this we must uphold strict protocols before approving a new applicant. Regretfully, I have chosen to decline your application at this time. The reason for this is that at this time you do not meet the minimum requirement of 250 edits to mainspace articles (see under main here). Please note it is nothing personal by any means, and we certainly welcome you to apply again soon. Thank you for your interest in VandalProof. Prodego talk 17:03, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

If you think VandalProof is a great tool for you, just do some more editing, at the same pace as you have for the last 3 months, and apply again. I wish there was a Mac version as I could use it a lot. Cheers ww2censor 04:07, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
thanks ww2. i don't think it was denied reasonably -- the VandalBot page says the requirements are loose (i.e. 250 mainpage edits etc) and I was very close as is, but i revert 2-3 spam/vandals a day now sometimes and would be doing more if i had the tools.Izaakb 13:51, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Smithandwesson logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

[edit] Replaceable fair use Image:Ducati_mach1_800.jpg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Ducati_mach1_800.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. P.S. I still think the image is replaceable, but this is not a straightforward case. So I removed the {{rfu}} tag, and instead will list it at WP:IFD to get more opinions from other people. I'll copy your comments there, but feel free to comment further if you'd like. – Quadell (talk) (random) 00:32, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Ducati_mach1_800.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Ducati_mach1_800.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use.

If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 01:52, 23 August 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Videmus Omnia Talk 01:52, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ducati Mopeds

Re your comment "(MOPED MANUFACTURERS?? Ducati does not make mopeds.)" at the Ducati Motor Holding article.

Actually, they did. Do a quick Google. :)

Here's one list of several models over the years, http://www.mopedarmy.com/photos/brand/63/

If those were not by Ducati Motor Holding SpA, please just let me know. And if you could suggest which Ducati did make them, that'd be a help. I was just doing a review/sort of all the moped & scooter content in wiki & Commons. It wasn't some drive-by vandalism trying to fly up the nose of Ducati motorcycle fans. 24.69.22.73 (talk) 22:26, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

You are totally right, it's just those were made ages before the term "MOPED" existed. These bikes (mopeds) came at a time when Ducati made engines to put on a bicycle (the Cucciolo) which I guess is a moped as well. I will see if I can get you some more info on them, I have a huge catalogue of all the various old stuff Ducati made (at the time called Ducati Meccanica SpA).izaakb ~talk ~contribs 04:30, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
Actually, Ducati did call some of them mopeds.

http://www.mopedarmy.com/photos/brand/63/3933/
But don't worry - I don't intend to start filling the Duc page with moped info. That catagory listing is simply needed for Category:Moped manufacturers.
Once we do start seeing Ducati moped info for Wikipedia, it might be best if it's quickly spun off into its own article. The current page is already a very good balance of Company/History/Important Bikes.
If you can revert your edit when you get a chance, that'll help be clear to folks that we're not having an edit-war. Thanks.24.69.22.73 (talk) 05:32, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
You need a user account, logging in with your IP address is so impersonal. I think you SHOULD put in a section about the mopeds in the main article under product history and product designs. I think it is very useful information and plenty of ppl like hearing about Ducati's non-motorcycle history. It's entirely appropriate to include. If a sub-article to flesh it out more is warranted, that is useful too. I am reverting my revert now.. izaakb ~talk ~contribs 15:44, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
I added some of the above-mentioned scooters to the navbox Template:Ducati in anticipation of the articles to come. Brianhe (talk) 04:40, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Spam cleanup

Thanks for helping to de-spam a number of motorcycle articles lately. We need fewer evil spammers and more good wikipedians like you. Brianhe (talk) 20:11, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

I got your message too, Izaakb, about Verticalscope's spamming. I'm on the fence on certain external links... I think it just makes sense to have a few external links that might help a novice connect on a practical level (ie, a forum). BUT, I really don't like it when a contributor's sole contribution is to ad external links... that's a big tip-off for me that they're not operating in the spirit of Wikipedia. Keep up the good work! 842U (talk) 20:50, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
I, too, feel certain external links are useful. The problem I saw with VerticalScope's posting of their motorcycle reviews was that it wasn't additionally useful to the article(s), but it is a thin line -- between nixing someone's opinion versus useful additional facts about the subject.izaakb ~talk ~contribs 02:23, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Dan Wesson

Hello Izaakb! Thanks for your help concerning Dan Wesson ! I'm a wiki-newbie and do not want to do things wrong. [edit] Motorcycle Wiki

Hey Izaakb, Here's an opportunity to put your expertise to work in the area of motorcycles. Cycle Chaos is a Wiki-styled web site that needs help from people who love bikes and can contribute more information and even manufacturers. There's virtually no problems with administrators and it seems free to edit without trouble. As a Brit, you can offer some content that may be lacking. My user page is: Cycle Chaos, Noles1984 Thanks. [edit] Malaguti

I have a feeling that user "MalagutiItalia" is a sock puppet for "Scooterguy", which I think is MRP, Martin Racing Products who put all the ads in the first place izaakb ~talk ~contribs 22:26, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

I agree. I am going to paste the diffs at the sock report here. If you have anything to add, please do. Prashanthns (talk) 19:35, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
